Put dip stick into pan yesterday on my new 454. Sloppy as heck. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif It wasn't that way when I took it out.
Does it need an o-ring or something on it??? Can't remember it having one.
Any help appreciated http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

no oring, just fits into pan, and bolts up to engine up top to keep it in place.

For my chrome dipstick I had to o-ring it for it to seal. I just picked a couple of them up at the store.

My engine builder put a new pan on my 402, and when I put the dipstick in, it fit soppy. I put an O-ring on the tube, bolted the top on. It doesn't move and is oil tight! I didn't know myself if it was supposed to have an O-ring on it, it wasn't on the tube when I took it apart, but it could have been stuck in the old pan, and since I didn't keep it, I didn't know.

My '69 BBC uses a seal, GM PN 274244. This part is still available from GM.

thanks for the help to you all. I put an o-ring on it and seemed ok. When I fire it up on thanksgiving, I will know if it seals. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif I might check into the seal refered to me by Fred.
Thanks again. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
