: Vortech Pro 475
DrThunder Oct 6th, 08, 10:26 PM After talking with Mark for about a half hour on the phone I have become very interested in the 475 he makes. I will opt for .030 over making it a 460. Mark sounds like a very knowledgeable and around these parts very reputable man for his work. I'm looking for guys who are currently running his setup and am looking for gas mileage numbers. I am running a tremek 6-speeed (.5 overdrive) with a 3.73 rear end. I run about 1600 rpms at 70. With an engine that creates so much torque I'm hoping to be in at least the 15 mpg range. Sound all that far off?
Thanks
Corey
VinceS427bb Oct 6th, 08, 11:47 PM no,
might get a few more mpg,
shoot for 20mpg. :)
Corey,
I bought and installed Marks 475-570hp BB in my 66'. I've never even tried to identify gas mileage numbers (I really don't care), but I have to tell you that you won't be sorry you went with Marks engines.
In my opinion, Mark is very knowledgable and builds a hell of an engine for the price. I couldn't believe the power and torque in my 66' compared to my old 396. Shipping was smooth and easy, Mark arranged it all, and the engine was in a great shape when it arrived in a wooden crate.
I'm happy and others here are too; best of luck with your decision.
Tod:beers:
mr 4 speed Oct 7th, 08, 7:17 AM Corey,I sent you a pm yesterday...
anyway, you can't go wrong with Mark...he is the only non local engine builder I would want to use

chevguy65 Oct 22nd, 08, 10:41 PM Doug,
From what I understand Mark got your engine done, not only on time but ahead.
He asked you to have your carb and distributor to him by Friday and this was on a Monday. That should have been a piece of cake.
He also asked you to include your final payment since he did the entire build on a $500.00 non refundable deposit.
You never sent him the final payment, or as they say in the collection industry "the check was lost in the mail". That's about as bad as calling in to work every month to go to the funeral of your dead grandmother.
Anyway, he had your engine on the dyno Friday and your carb and distributor did not show until the following Tuesday.
He builds more than one engine, so you got bumped.
BTW, he never got that final payment so you got your carb and distributor back.
If you did that to me or anyone else you would have gotten the same.
I know I would not do business with you.
djfox Oct 22nd, 08, 11:53 PM chevyguy,
...partial truths, inaccuracies and missing pieces of information in your third party perspective.
I am not going to post anything publicly. I will respond to PM's.

chevguy65 Oct 23rd, 08, 12:20 AM Ahh come on Doug,
if your honest come out and say it publicly.
Don't go behind peoples back and bad mouth them.
Besides I trust Mark and if he says he did what he says he did for you and you did not follow through that's your problem, not Mark's.
Besides his reputation stands for itself.
100% Staisfaction!
Uhh I guess unless you screw with him.
SWHEATON Oct 23rd, 08, 8:38 AM with the timing and fuel calibration dialed in well you should easily beat 15mpg with your overdrive setup, maybe 18-20+ as suggested.
My mild 396 w-370hp/430lbs trq with stock ex manifolds/331-12bolt/m20 muncie/25.5-26' tall tires got 13.7mpg in mixed city/over the road driving cond when i recently checked it. So my best on the open road is likely 15.0 - 15.5mpg if i am lucky, you should be considerably better then that with your overdrive setup.

I think this forum has been through enough BS about VORTECHPRO MARK and the slander out there. I can't imagine there is another side to this story... Its very simple.... $500 deposit and you pay the balance...
You send him your parts and then he returns them to you when you don't pay the balance?
Does'nt sound like a guy trying to screw you to me...
This BS about sending one of Marks engines to WOLFPLACE for a dyno run at MARKS expense is getting out of line too (eventhough marks agreed)... I respect and admire the work of WOLFPLACE too, exceptional builder and positive reputation. Mark has one of his engines sent to westech and puts down over 670hp with limited time for runs and tuning then the boards turn to monster bash session about westech, dynos, whos is more acurate, which dyno is getting laid.... A dyno is for tuning and to provide a ball park figure... Varibles are numerous to even to describe and Im not going too, waste of time ...
It amazes me how imature or heck lets stop being polite here... Its plain ass stupid some of the arguments that go on not only in this furum but others. I am sick of prideful know it all's (most of them are full of crap) who think freedom of speech is saying what ever about who ever's business whatever period they are on... What happened to legitimate arguments...
I don't generally spout this stuff off, but grow up... Life is hard and unfair most of the time and someone out there is always trying to screw someone. In MARKS case I don't see that.. A legit engine builder trying to make a living and doing his best to serve his customers...
Sorry for the rant, but come on... I have learned so much from many guys of this forum especially that would have cost me more $$$ if I did it on my own and for this I am greatful... So many members willing to help, share information and sources to get a chevelle or other cars done.. I am sick of reading a stupid drama... Im done and I don't really give a crap what other whiners have to say... If this bothers some.. good go get a bottle of Vodka and a baby bottle and whine and cry somewhere else....:D
pdq67 Oct 24th, 08, 12:38 PM I figure that Carl, Mark and Mike are all stand-up guys.
And others too!
And I did get in on the dyno pissing contest, only b/c of Westech's usually higher numbers after I read an article in onna the mag's that matter of factly stated that they use an excellent set of dyno headers that could imho attribute to higher numbers vs whats used in cars. No biggie tho b/c I'm always trying to learn something!

Carl, Doug is doing exactly what was said to do, telling his side to anyone interested by PM rather than "vendor bash" in public.
