Ran my 69 Chevelle saturday. 1/4 mile track. This was a TnT day. No roll bar. I ran 3 times before they told me to slow it down or go home. I slowed it down but still tried for the 60' times. Best time was.
11.159 @124.42mph
R/T .154.
60'1.769
1/8 7.238 @100.04 mph
Ran 8 times that was the best time. 60' times were as high as 2.188 I am running Hoosier QTP 27X11.5/15 with 410 rear gears.
Line loc not working. Foot breaking for burnout and not the best.
Tires are getting bad. Would a 28"tall tire help the 60' times?
Thanks Ron

You could probably go 30" tires with those gears and all that torque. It seems you're just blowing the tires off it.

Rapid Robert. It is spinning most the 60'area. I thing that is mainly because of the bad burnout. I need to get line loc fixed. Might try a QTP 29X11.50/15. What size tires are you running?

I currently I am using my 275/60/15 BFG drag radials...60 ft times yesterday were 1.67-1.69 except for a couple times I got in some fluid they were 1.74 and 1.76. I don't have a line lock,I've never used a line lock. I'll probably go back to Hoosier slicks this fall, something in the 28x9 or 28 x10 range most likely.

I ordered a set of 28x11.5/15 QTPs. There is another TnT on the 20th. I changed my master cylinder and brake system this year and I think there is not enough brake pressure to the front brakes to hold the car for a burnout. No proportioning valve. Only distrabution block on the frame. Front brakes are Aerospace Disc and drum rear. I think rear is doing most of the work.
Nice looking 72 you have. I have checked it out many times on this site.

With a 124 mph trap speed, your goal of 10.8 is well within reach.
Good tires are a must, as is some suspension work. Ditto for track prep!
A roll bar would be a good thing, both for your sefety and for traction. Chevelles twist up prety good.
Taller tires are always a plus, the contact patch is longer. And you have enough torque to use them.
I forget, are QTP's the slicks with a bit of tread? I use Hoosier 29 x 10 on my Nova, I have never tried the street legal types. I don't mind changing tires at the track.
Yopu should be in the mid 1.5's with your combo....maybe even better.

Ron454 The QTPs are labeled as DOT approved. They have the 2 grooves that go around the tire.
The roll bar goes in this winter.
I have the HRP Anti roll bar installed and it made a big difference in the twist in the front at launch. Rises almost even in the front. Before weight was transfering from front to back to front to back threw the 60 foot mark and maybe further. That is all gone now. HRP a big + for me. I will try the 28" Hoosiers this saturday. Right now i need to get my line loc working. It will not hold when i take my foot off the brake. The pressure releaves itself. I think my back brakes are doing most of the work and I can not get a good burnout with the foot brake. I will also jet the 950 Hp up 2 sizes.
What are your RPMs going threw the traps. Mine is right around 6,800 RPMs. That was with the 27" Hoosiers.
Thanks......Ron

Hey Ron,
I also run 4.10 gears and the RPM in the lights is 6400 or so. I usually run around 120-121.
Good point on the line loc, you need to heat those babys, especially this time of year!

What's a HRP Anti roll bar?

Ron, The M/T 10.5W x 28" E.T. Drags and 3.89 gears works better than any other combo we've tried. These tires along with a 10" wheel produced low 1.3 - 60' times when nothing below a mid 1.4s have been commonplace before now. This tire is a bit hard to fit in the '70 Chevelle's wheelwells but will go with some work. At your power level the 4.10 gears might work better. 10.8s should be no sweat with bite.

Chevydog66 Check out the HRP Anti roll bar.

Harold Sutton I would like to run a 10" wheel sometime. For now I am still using the 69 SS style steel wheels. 7X15 front 8x15 rear. Light weight wheels would be nice. I like the original look.
I been using Hoosiers QTPros for 2 years. I might change in the middle of 2005. Use M/T or BFG. I will see how the Hoosier 28" do on the 20th. I would like to get in the 10s for the last TnT day. I plan on trying for the R/T, 60' and 1/8th and shut it down. Last run will be 1/4 run. What ever it runs. The roll bar will be in before Christmas.
Thanks for the info on the tire and wheel combo.
