Hi to the new friends from team Chevelle that i met at the Springfield, Mo. Fall Nat's. I went out to watch my sons car at the midnights last night and it was a very good night indeed. My son made a slow pass to check out the new Wilwood Pro Street Brakes, which work pretty good by the way, and the car shot ducks all the way down the track. The gold Camaro that put up the 1013 H.P. pull on the Dynojet then made a pass and found out he needs to take some gear out of his car as it rode the 8000 RPM rev limiter for the last 100-150 feet of the strip and chased down the Nova from R&J Speed Shop. The Nova went 9.03 @ 151 but got caught by the Camaro who carded a 8.63 @ 162.92. My son's car then went 9.22 @ 146.88. When he came back to the pits he told me he had to lift just before the lights because the car started spinning the tires and walking around.

Hey Harold,,
Congrats to you & your son graemlins/thumbsup.gif

When you gonna put the big engine in

Liftin because it's a little loose graemlins/sad.gif
Never make a Fuel Altered driver out of him that way,,
tell him you don't lift as long as you can still see the time clocks in a generally forward direction,,

Just kiddin,,,, my sanity came into question on more than one occasion by the Santos family,,, something about being able to read their name on the side of their dragster from the starting line as I recall :D

ALL I can say is WOW!!!!

I want ta impress my big-headed B-i-L by spinning my tires at 70 mph after pulling out ta pass, straightening her up and cobbing her in third gear!!!

Will 550 hp and 3.31's do it???

If not, then it's either a lung or that 588'er I have mouthed about....

He, He!!!

Hi Wolfy, Both cars are running pretty darn good. Spinning in high gear at 145+ is definately something that will get your attention. I guess that taking some gear out will come next and maybe now i can convince him that 598 cubic inches will make the car even faster. Both his car and the friends Camaro are getting too much air under the cars but i think my boy's tires are just going away. Man that Camaro is fast. Almost 163 MPH with 4.10 gears.

Thanks Pat, Wish you guy's could see these cars run. Oct, 16th should be quite a show here at Tulsa Raceway Park. The Camaro will be running for sure.

Thanks 427L88, It sure was a great night. When we get my sons car regeared we can bust out of the hole with the juice on and it should pick up several tenths. I never realized how little gear you really need when you get a boatload of power. A 9" ford rear with a 3.5-3.7 gear is plenty to do the trick. That Camaro with the 593" motor was on the rev limiter for the last hundred or more feet and was running over 160 MPH. Both cars have more in them as both these runs were far from ideal. The Camaro spun down low and the Chevelle ran through most of first gear before the juice came in and only recorded a 1.489 - 60' time.

Pop's I ran into Brian at the Car wash on his way out Sat night, ya know him gotta have a clean car to race. He said he let himself be goaded out by the Speedshop boys and Duane. He told me his tires were about gone. All I said was "BE CAREFUL little brother, I might see you out there" glad to see he lifted, the old Brian wouldn't have. I ran worn tires once and ended up in the other lane at mid track and that was in a car running about 20 mph slower than he is.

Sounds like some great runs there Harold, they are really flying! That taller gear will really help out of the hole when spraying it.

Don't let those guys give him **** about lifting, that's the smart thing to do unless you want to get peeled off the guardrail or the car in the other lane.

Sounds like some new tires are in order. Did ya ever notice all the 10.5 tires in the pits for sale at the races that looked like they still have a lot of rubber still on them? A lot of those guys running those speeds start having problems with them after 15-20 runs or so.

505Nova, Your right about the tires, about 20 runs if your lucky. I know the car is over-geared and i'm going to cure that soon, we have another rear end with a back brace and bigger axles, only need a higher numerical gear as i bought it with 3.89s. We can install the rear along with the Wilwood disc brakes which will make a much safer car. Those 10.5s would be O.K. on a twelve second but not a low nine second one. Geoff, I'm glad he didn't run the Nova or the Mustang coupe with the tires the way they were but it did make a nice pass alone. 8s are just a gear change and a set of tires away. The R&J Speedshop guys were pretty decent about not goading him into a race and told him to go try the brakes. (the brakes worked great too). They won't have a chance of beating him with the juice set up right. I don't think the other guys knew he lifted as it wasn't apparent from the line.
