When I bought my 72 monte carlo it had almost and inch worth of alignment shims between the control arm shaft and where it bolts to the frame on the passenger's side. The Driver's side only had one or two 1/16" shims. The car also sat higher on the passenger side in the rear. Out of curiousity I removed the shims and tightened the control arm shaft bolts down and this made the car sit more level, this messed up my alignment and made the top of my passenger's side front wheel stick out quite a bit. I know all my control arm bushings front and rear are shot and need replacing, the rear springs are brand new and the front ones are shot. Any suggestions? I want to take it to a frame shop to see if my frame is straight, anyone else have a similar issue?

What happened to me in 1966, My 66 -396 Caprice was eating tires, Nothing left to adjust.... Took it to Baker Chevrolet in Beaver, Pa. The frame shop tied down the frame hornes and jacked up the crossmember. " IF " your car has hit a something or came close to bottoming out.
You may have bent one or both sides of the front crossmember.
I agree with having the frame checked. Then you will be starting with a clean slate. Over the years if you see a STOCK " A " body with OFF-SET upper cross shafts, Chances are the crossmember has sagged.........And needs pushed up. Rather than using off-set upper shafts, I would get the frame corrected !!!
OFF-SET upper shafts are OK, And the usual " BUT " This may tell you something else is wrong ! Just my thoughts..............

We had to get the frame pulled in our Chevelle. It doesn't appear to have ever been in an accident. Hard driving can twist the frame rails in at the top to the point where there is no shim adjustment left. That was the case with our car. It has been fine since the work was done about 7 years ago. You never know what wild rides these cars have been taken on in the past.
