: which carb to choose
BruteSBC Nov 7th, 04, 6:39 PM well im planning on building a 355 with vortecs, mild port job, a airgap-type manifold, an XE274 cam, and hopefully around 10.5 compression. i was and still am looking for a carb to rebuild and use, and someone said they have a 650 double pumper and a 750 VS carb, id like to drive the car occasionally and gas milage would be nice, but i dont really care. i dont want 9 mpg either.
or is there a way to get the 650 to flow more cfm?
which should i get and why? im trying to learn carbs heh

BIGS Carbs Nov 7th, 04, 7:49 PM Hello Mike........what type tranny/convertor/rear gear you going to run? Jesse
BruteSBC Nov 7th, 04, 7:59 PM hey jesse,
im gonna go with a 3.73 posi, with a 700R4 Lockup converter, and im thining around a 2400 or so staul, unless someone tells me otherwise.
also, if i rebuild the carb, how long can it sit?
mike
ovelle Nov 7th, 04, 8:33 PM you dont need more air a 650 dp will be sufficient.do make my mistake.i spent money on both 750 is lazy but powerful up top,but my 650 runs circles around it throttle response is great..dont fall for the "bigger is better"thing.
some people dont believe in the formula thats been running around for years but i find it pretty effective.

BruteSBC Nov 7th, 04, 8:41 PM yeah, id like to get the double pumper, however i heard that 750's were good up top, and made more power, and i also saw someone running myexact cobo with a 720 or somethin that ran 11.9's and id love to be right there with him
mike
ovelle Nov 7th, 04, 9:16 PM i think pat kelley has a 355 running those numbers but is it the same combo as yours??11.9's
is pretty fast.the only time imho when you need a big carb on small cubes is when you start hitting the 7000-7500 mark.but i could be mistaken.

With the Auto trans, and Mild converter, I think you'd be happier with the VS carb.
BruteSBC Nov 8th, 04, 5:16 PM whys that?
Bob West Nov 8th, 04, 8:22 PM If you're wanting a timeslip,I'd go with the 650DP,,,the top end you might gain with the 750 will not make up for what you already lost off the line,,,trying to e.t. with a heavy car, you have got to get it off the line,,,traction and torque,,,and the 650 will help with that.
