What is the best way to lock out a stock HEI distributor? I purchased an MSD 6A along with an MSD Timing computer module that is supposed to give me an automatic dist. curve up to 3000 rpm and then go directly to the timing that I have set on my lock-out distributor. I want to lock out my distributor and set it to 36 deg. total. What is the best way to do this?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Daniel

Seems to me that an easy way to do it would be to measure the distance between the two posts (where a spring goes), and drill two holes the size of those posts in a small piece of metal. Cut the metal as small as possible around those holes. Install in place of the spring.

In other words, just replace the spring with a piece of solid metal.

Maybe put e-clips on the posts to secure it if necessary.

You should also be able to remove the weights, bushings, and center cam to reduce the rotating mass. Might be good for .0000000000000000001 in the quarter mile. ;)

Hey Chad,
I will give it a try this afternoon. I know this won't help me much in the 1/4, just looking for a good reliable timing curve and ignition system.
Thanks,
Daniel

Daniel,
Most that I have seen are welded.

I think you'd want to position the rotor blade so it's centered on a cap terminal before locking it down, however you do it. Seems like I saw a kit for locking them in Summit or Jegs. Could be wrong though.
