The car is a 1964 Malibu 2 dr coupe. It came out of the California Fremont plant and has always stayed a California car. From what I can tell, it became a track car sometime between 1983 and 1985. I purchased it from a local custom bike shop here in Reno in early January 08. They had it traded in for a bike. It had a 383sbc with Brownfield heads and a Mopar A833 18 spline 4spd. From the pictures you can see it still had drum brakes and mostly stock components except for the back half kit and cage.
I decided to strip the car down and update some items. When I am finished, most of the car will be either new or rebuilt. The car has ZERO rust, which is always nice to see! I ran into some filler around the welded up trim holes and the rear 1/4's. The rear 1/4's are molded with fiberglass and blended with a thin layer of filler. The previous owner had this done to help clear the tires. The doors and fenders are in the process of being media blasted. The hood, trunk lid and wiper cowl will be replaced with UP22.com race weight fiberglass items. I talked with Mark Jones aka VortecPro, and decided on his 475/620 combo. I am staying with the Mopar A833 tranny. I have installed a Center Force dual clutch kit and I'm in the process of fabing up a wilwood hydraulic slave cylinder system for the clutch. I try and keep the pictures up to date as I make progress. Just click the link in my sig.

Thanks! It seems like I've been taking 2 steps forward and 5 steps back! Everytime I think I might have something finished, back I go. That's part of the fun with building a car though. Hopefully this up22.com order turns out okay. I haven't seen any recent complaints, but that maybe because everyone has stopped ordering from them.

I'm working on a possible trade right now for a 07 Vette. So we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the cudo's!!! I'm real happy with the way it turned out.

I really like how yours is coming along.

Thought I would let everyone know my race weight fiberglass hood, deck lid, front bumper and wiper cowl showed up from UP22.COM today. Everyone had warned me to beware, but I had already placed my order. I have no complaints! Everything will need the typical fiberglass pre-paint prep, but so far that's it. I will try and post pictures soon. The order took roughly 5 weeks from date of order to me picking it up at the terminal. Shipping was very reasonable at $95. And to my amazement, it shipped out from southern Cali last night, and it showed up in the Reno terminal this morning at 10am.

I've added a few more photo's in the link. The seat mounts are almost complete for the Kirkey's, the dash is smoothed and primed. The newest radiator is installed and new fans are almost in. I hope to have the dash in paint soon so I can start the wiring and finally fire the motor.

The new Derale fans are in. I had to fab new cross members on the core support for clearance because of the Gilmer drive. Took some extra work, but I wanted a different look. I will post some pictures of the headers, fuel system, master cylinder and steering column install soon. The newest pictures start at the top in the sig.

Nice headers. Who made them?

BLRDVIZN
Jan 28th, 09, 9:37 PM
They are Lemons. It was hard to spend the extra coin, but I'm glad I did! Being able to take pipes off 1 at a time will make life a lot easier for future upgrades.
Nice job on yours by the way! How many hours of fab work do you think you have in them?

Jan 29th, 09, 6:05 PM
Thanks.Probably 20-24 hours complete. Some tubes took as little 45 minutes and some took 4 hours and 1,000 cuss words each. Had flanges plasma cut out at work and bought a box of Stahl "bend mistakes" and Dyno Tech slip-on collectors. Will have them coated after dyno session sometime as soon as funds allow. Been looking at yours for a while and it has sure come a long way. Lookin good.

Thanks! I never intended to dig this far into it. I keep getting ahead of myself in areas, but I guess that's part of the learning process. How's your 69 coming along? Any new picture's to share?

It's coming pretty good. Have wheel tubs installed and installed sheetmetal between tubs on framerails today. Will get some more pics this weekend and post. Decided to do interior in sheet metal and cover with carpet and do trunk in aluminum sort of race car style. Ain't it fun???

Loads of fun! Here are a few pics of the header unwrapped, and the CPP master cylinder. I have the steering column installed with the DD shaft and joints so I can check clearances and start bending the brake lines. I noticed that the oil filter removal might be an issue in the future, so a remote filter mount should be installed soon. I hope to have the fuel system plumbed this weekend!:hurray:http://i.pbase.com/g1/80/702880/2/108815272.cckJQ4Nu.jpg

Can't tell if it's wrinkle paint or what.It definately looks good as it's not too dull or shiny. Just got all my sheet metal in the interior tonight and will get pics for sure this weekend.

Thanks. It's a splatter style paint over a ceramic heat paint. The color is a rustic metal. I wanted something different that would off set the motor color scheme. I look forward to seeing your interior pics!

The fuel system is almost done. I'm running a 20gal fuel cell, dual -8 feed lines to a single -10 line connected to a Barry Grant 5000 filter and Barry Grant 220HR pump. From the pump -8 line runs the length of the frame, crossing over the exhaust to the transmission tunnel, up the tunnel to the back of the motor, along the right valve cover into a -8 180' line fitting, into a -8 fuel log, and finally into a Barry Grant diaphgram bypass and a -8 return line follows the feed line back to the tank. I wanted the all black and some chrome look, but Aeroquip doesn't make a black or stainless 180' socketless fitting. I'm going to try and paint the fitting to match the rest. I wanted to keep the firewall free of everything except for the CPP master cylinder and Lokar throttle cable. So far so good. FYI, don't use the Pbase website to post pictures. They will be gone in a few hours after posting.

Here are some pics of interior sheet metal. Doesn't look like much now but with epoxy primer and carpet will look good... I hope. http://rides.webshots.com/album/570009319GThiQQ

Thanks. No, I shot some epoxy primer on them before I installed them for the last time. Figured it would be easier to paint them on a table instead of my on my back on a creeper.

Here's a few new pics of the remote mount filter system finally installed. The left frame rail was the only open place that I still ended up with a safe amount of clearance. I'm running -10 Aeroquip socketless hose and fittings with a Trans Dapt dual filter housing. I have the hoses linned with Russell's heat tubing just to help out. The I also added a few pics of the almost finished fuel system. I ended up fabing an aluminum bracket for the filter. The feed and return lines are clamped to the right frame rail- I'll try and get some pics of them soon. The top left line on the fuel cell is the return and the right is the vent.
