I finally drove the chevelle after converting to front discs. Had more trouble with changing the master cylinder to dual reservoir, proportioning, bending/flaring brake lines than expected.
I sure am glad I stuck with it however. I can now make double flares that are as good as the factory. I also know the job got done to my standards and no corners were cut because of time considerations.
The obvious question now is "was it worth it?". So far I can say this. I went manual front discs with 1" bore early 70's corvette master cylinder and generic GM combination valve for proportioning. Using 11" rotors and "large" GM single piston calipers. The pedal is only slightly harder to push than my late model daily driver with power everything. Stops faster and with less pedal force than before.:) Its almost as good as power brakes, just what I was trying for since my engine only makes about 15" of vacuum.:hurray:
