so i purchased 6 door/window springs....i'm a bit confused....they go under the door panel?....geez i might not use them then...it would be a real pain in the butt to put the door panels back on.....do they make the handle that much tighter?....mine are a little shakey

They slide on the crank and handle shafts before you put the panel up against the door. They make the cranks and handles tighter and also keep tension in these areas to prevent dips in the panels where the shafts come out. I recommend you use them.

I don't use them, I just use the platic washers that go behind the cranks.

I think the primary reason they are being the door handle is to apply pressure to the door panel to push some tension against the handle so you dont strip out the threads on the inside of your handles. And we all know how much of a PITA that can be.

I read somewhere that they are they to prevent a rattle.

What Davis said. They also keep the panels tight to the cranks to stop air leaks/drafts.
