My wife and I are planning on a trip to Granbury on the 18th of October to do some work on Jimmy's car. The more volunteers that can help, the better. I'm also going to ask my son-in-law if he can come along also. If anyone else is interested in helping, the 18th is two weeks from Saturday. I'm not going to specify a time due to the driving distance. Just get there when you can. I figure to be there most of the day.

Hopefully, nothing will come up in the meantime that will cause my wife and me to have to reschedule, but if it does, I urge all those who plan on going to press on whether my wife and I go or not, and go help get this car back on the road. We have grandkids, and plans can and do change in a hurry sometimes. We are committed to going on the 18th, but our lives can be hectic at times.

I just want to put this back on top.

Actually, we're going to be in that area of Texas for several days this month.

However, in an email that I exchanged with Jimmy P's wife, she told me that she is currently rebuilding / remodeling her home.
I know what all is involved in remodeling and how hectic of a time that can be, and I don't want to end up being in the way (giving her maybe too many irons in the fire at once)...unless it's okay with her.

Otherwise, we are going to be back in that area in early February.

Regards,
-Greg

Well, it was a good day for this. I arrived in Granbury shortly after 2:00 p.m. and stayed for a couple of hours. Hats off to Richard who had drivin out there from the other side of Dallas early this morning and was hard at it when I got there! He was going at it like he had done it few times before. I'll post some pictures soon.

I was glad to be able to get over there and help. If it was closer I'm sure I could be better assistance. I don't think it would be possible to be farther away and still be in the DFW metroplex.

As for looking like I have done it before its real easy to take stuff apart when you know you won't be the one putting it back together :D If you want to come over I will need a hand putting my fresh painted column though the dash of my Olds. Keller is only 2/3 as far as I went you know.

Seriously it was a good day and it was a pleasure to meet and work with you Randy.

I'll be more than happy to help! Just let me know when so we can arrange a time that works for both of us.

As for Jimmy's car, I plan on going again in two or three weeks, probably sometime in November. Exact date to be determined.

Hopefully this time, I can put in a full day.

You are welcome to come over any time and check out my junk but I don't really need you to make the trip for the column. I have a couple neighbors that can help any time I need an extra hand. Let me know the next date on Jimmy's car. I will see if I cam make it again.

Is there a next date set? Sorry I could not make the last one. With enough of a heads up we can successfully juggle the 2 soccer schedules and other things around. Let me know.

Hi Everyone, A quick update on Jimmys Chevelle, the motor went back to get new valve springs rocker arms oil pan etc , all parts will be replaced that were rusty from the water damage. As soon as it comes back and goes in the fenders and hood will go on. Todd was working on the headliner last time I talked to him, the back seat was in, fat mat and carpet. It's going very slow but that's ok it will get done eventually. We had Grundy insurance on our last car, can anyone suggest another classic car ins company?

As it stands now, it'll probably be sometime after the first of the year before I head back down ther. I post it again in this thread a couple of weeks before going down there.

I found a good paint shop out of this. The guy who's doing Jimmy's car does good work. Two projects I want to tackle sometime soon, a 65 Chevelle and a 50 - 53 Chevy 3100 series truck. I don't know if you know it or not, but I sold my 71 last year, for personal reasons. I'm finally starting to get motivated again so I've been keeping my eyes open for either one of those two vehicles.

But anyway, I'll let the DFW members know a couple of weeks ahead of time before heading back that way again.

I spotted this in an old thread that was just brought back up today...

Thanks!
I have been writing and compiling true stories of the early days of street racing, when there weren't too many alternitives. I hope to produce a non-fiction book soon. It's been a long time in the making and I have gotten some REALLY good old-timer's stories to share.

Does Mrs. Jimmy P happen to know anything about these stories? Are they written down anywhere? It would be awesome if these stories could live on!
