Does anyone have the part numbers for the small block chevrolet "script" valve covers? It's the ones that say Chevrolet on them with the straight bolt pattern and no oil filler hole. They were on the early and mid 60's 283's and some 327's. I have been trying to find a good set to chrome for our 67 and everything I have found has a ding, dent, rusted edge or the surface is rusted and too far gone to get a real good plate.
Talked to a guy and he said he had some new old valve covers in boxes but did not want to open the boxes to see what was what. Might get lucky if I had the part numbers for the right and left.
appreciate any help

sassy 67I'm looking at a Chevrolet parts manual, 1946 to 64. Not much description but under group 0.386, valve covers:
59-64 Pass. (283) #3850049 COVER UNIT, right or left (8 13/16" out hole spacing)
62-64 Pass. (327) (except Sp. H/Per., F.I.) #3910298 COVER ASSY., right or left.

Everything else listed is 55-59 staggered, aluminum, or L6 or 348/409.

Part nos. change over time and 'service replacement' items come into play with new part numbers but maybe these will help.

Evening Dale, appreciate the part numbers. I did some checking on Goggle and both of these numbers showed up as plain Chevrolet valve covers with no script, just slick. Appreciate the help, I'll keep looking. If you run into anything else please let me know.
thanks again

maybe you could inquire to the seller as to the part # on the box.

Hey BigFred and Dale, the eBay seller got back to me and said both covers had dings in them which would knock them out as covers to chrome. The part numbers were taped over and he could not get a good reading, the number he gave 3772668 did not come back as a good number. I'm going to try some number crossing and see where it takes me.

Sure that numbers not 3772669? If so they're for a 62-67 w/sp h/per FI 327.

Did some more searching. I can't be 100% sure the info I have is completely correct, but based on what info I found, the stamped steel w/script vc's were only std on early SB's or base HP small block Corvettes, as per Dale's info.

Supposedly the Corvette versions were different, angled at the firewall end to clear equipment (maybe the dist. shield).

The both the Corvette and non-Corvette versions were supposedly only used up to '63 or '64 when they were switched to the plain VC that had a flat area in the center where a decal was applied corresponding to the CI and HP rating of that engine. They scripted version returned in '67 but only for the Corvette base engines and only for that year.

Also supposedly all of the SB Corvettes w/sp hi/per, FI were finned alum w/the Corvette flag emblem, similar to the more common Z28 finned alum versions.

I found these 2 posts that had info and pics (although the pic links need to be copied/pasted and not all still work)

There is info in one post indicating a GM part # for the currently available repro non-Corvette painted version. They are available from any GM dealer. P/N 12480127

Also read that originals are readily available at car show swap meets on the cheap.

I wonder if you might have success finding straight originals from someone who focuses on vettes or Hot Rods.

Also had another thought, there are a lot of craftsmen that take dings, etc. out of stainless trim parts for a living. I wonder if they could handle a pair of these VC with a few dings too. Then you could use almost any halfway decent set for polish and chrome.

Update, Fred (Chicken Coupe), appreciate the information from Classic Hq, checked with them and the valve covers are not in production and they do not have a date of when they may be. They sure looked good and I thought we had the solution.
The guy with the unopended boxes of valve covers has part number 3910298, the plain non script covers, not what I'm looking for, Thanks Dale.
So I went junk yarding yesterday and found several Chevrolet script valve covers, mainly from 65-67 283's, and every one of them on the right side had some damage on it. Found a couple of clean left sides but no right sides, I'll keep looking, sure are a bunch of part numbers to keep straight. Some people just have "no respect for valve covers"
appreciate the help and the information
