Yesterday I went to Tri-City dragway in Earlville, IA. for the Drag City fun race, where the local street rod club rents the track for the day. Over 200 cars were there with a lot of fast street cars. Over the winter I installed a 454 in place of the tired small block. I could tell from the seat of the pants that it had way more power but I would have never guessed this:

12.57 @ 114mph :D

This is with a 3.08 gear 10-bolt, street radials and full exhaust! I wasn't able to leave very hard as my powertrax no-slip unit would unlock at the slightest hint of wheelhop. I was able to get four good passes by power braking it to about 1500 rpm, releasing the brake to launch the car and then slowly rolling into the throttle after the car was rolling. My best 60 ft. was 2.17!

The four good passes were:
12.71 @ 113.8
12.69 @ 114.0
12.57 @ 113.9
12.74 @ 114.0

I couldn't believe the mph's, looks like my oval port pump gas motor is making some pertty good power!

I'm thinking that I may need to find a 12-bolt this winter, especially if I can get this thing to hook at all!

Anyway I'm really excited with the way it performed and want to thank you guys here on Team Chevelle for all of the great info that has helped me get my 65 to this point graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Way  ! Those times are just incredible! graemlins/hurray.gif MPH definitely says well into the 11's.

Please, please, please keep the 3.08's and see how good you can get the E.T. with them.

If it wasn't for Team Chevelle I would have never believed these E.T.'s and mph's were possible with 2.73's or 3.08's. Astonishing! smile.gif

12 bolt and suspension work get it to hook and mid to low 11s are in reach. Have fun with the BBC.

Purs, my best 1/8 mi. et was a 8.25 and the best 1/8 mi. mph was 91.29 (not on the same pass).

I wasn't able to finish the exhaust part of my combo at work, so here it is:
1-3/4" long tube Hedmans (Jethot coated)
Pypes 3" mandrel bent x-pipe
Flowmaster 3 to 2-1/2 reducing cones
2-1/2" Goerlich Xlerator race mufflers (love the sound)
Pypes 2-1/2" tailpipes

I was so excited that I forgot to check what rpm's I was turning through the lights!

Thanks for all of the great comments. smile.gif

Very nice performance! I can sure bet you are happy!
The car looks incredibly clean from the engine pics. You wouldn't happen to have ever gotten it on a scale?
I remember when my car looked that clean, just tell yourself you bought & made the way it is to drive it, not to clean it..

sweet! 91mph ought to be good for 7.50's in the 1/8th if you can hook. I had (have) that same cam in my 408 I pulled(loved the sound), went with a slightly different grind in my 454. I hope I can get similar numbers as you. Congrats again.

Nice runs!!! Your engine compartment looks great.

Matt, I haven't had the car on the scales. My "guess" would be 3500-3600# less driver.

I think I may have over shot my goal, I wanted to break into the 12's but it looks like 11's are in reach graemlins/thumbsup.gif

It's not the same cam I run, but so what, Jeff's kicking arse and taking names! Super good first outing! You got more in it man once you get the chassis setup and rid the wheelhop. As many here have said, the engine is the easy part.

3.08s. Man, that's IMPRESSIVE! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
