Have time to change cam in my engine its out of the car and have the parts to do it but ran into a head problem and can't fire it immediately. Will it be okay to change the cam and wait the three weeks to four months to fire it ? i will be using moly lube on cam and wiping the cylinder down with mmo then fogging the block with wd-40.

I had my cam installed in the block 2 or 3 years before I fired it, and it broke in fine.

assuming flat tappet cam here,if you use a cam lube like comps red stuff thats thin and runs off in short order ABSOULUTLY NOT !!!!!

But if you use Crane's grey moly paste to coat lobes/lifters durring assembly then you should be ok.

Dont forget to gently pour a pint of gm eos over the cam/lifter just prior to installing the intake too.

And use an oil like chevrons delo 15w-40 that has a good zddp lvl 1350ppm for cam lifter breakin too and after for ongoing protection.

I would also prelube the crap out of the motor just prior to fireup 2 yrs from cam install using the tool that properly seals off the oil passages to properly prelube the motor prior to fireup.

I would also buy some desecant/moisture trapping bags so you could then bag up the motor with the desecant bags to suck the small amount of moisturer that may still get into the bag away from the motor.
