I never have, but recently decided to. Don't really know why. Do you fly the flag at home? Let's make it a poll...

I want too but my HOA has restrictions on flying flags to the size I can fly...I'm allowed a flag that fly's on my pillar out front but it would be in the way of my walkway to my drive...if I could I'd fly my 15 footer 30' high...RED WHITE AND BLUE BABY...

Tell the HOA to drop dead. I would just hang my AR-15 in my pick up back window in my driveway and have my 1911 on my side while cutting my lawn. Trust me it works at keeping the dumb ass neighbors from bothering you. And fly the biggest freaking flag you can buy!!!

I used to only fly mine on those "important" flag days, but now its 24/7 after my brother gave his life for me and this country to be free in Iraq on Oct 29, 2005. As soon as my wife and I can move (after selling our house) Im gonna get a 30 foot pole and fly it.

Twotone, my deepest condolences.

I fly the flag 24/7 and have a spotlight on it from dawn to dusk. (And I'm a Democrat.)

I wouldn't meet a HOA with firepower, but there are First Amendment issues here. I've heard of situations where local zoning laws and maybe HOA rules have been challenged for political signs and US flags.

I have one American flag on my front lawn, another American flag on my front door, three more American flags out back, and a 3'x5' American flag in my garage. Also a support our troops magnetic ribbon on every car / truck in the driveway!
The flags are taken down on rainy days, but otherwise flying high and proud!

I display the POW-MIA flag, I'm a Vietnam Era Vet and I'm proud to display it, my drag truck has a Vietnam POW-MIA theme and has been the Holley web site, truck of the month.

twotone64..I'm sorry to hear that and may America forever Solute him.

It's my fault..If I had built my flagpole before the HOA instead of procrastinating it would of been grandfathered to city code...If this house ever sells (as it's been on market for 2 years now) I will have a 24/7 flag with lights...

I have a 3 x 5 on my 30' pole 24/7, then on holidays, I get out all of my small flags (about 20) and place them in my fence.

On the 4th of July, I was at a car cruise, and they were giving a door prize for someone wearing something patriotic. I figured I was a shoe-in. I have an American Flag tattoo with a Bald Eagle. They gave the prize to a guy wearing a tee shirt!!

I do on the important days. The landlord made me stop flying it every day on the balcony. I also have three in their cases on the shelf right in front of me. My Dad's (Korea) and my two Brother's (Vietnam). The one I fly out side was flown over the Capitol and was a gift from my good friend, the late Senator Paul Simon.

Well being Canadian that would be just odd but I do have a 48 star flag in my classroom along with the Canadian flag, Union Jack, UN flag, Provincial flags, Swiss Flag, South Korean and Afghanistan..........I have students from most of these places and it make the Social Studies room look pretty good.

Guys, I am proud to be among you. I fly the red white and blue most days. I have forgotten a few days to put it out. Rushed, late for work who knows. When I read about those that died fighting for my freedom I tend to forget less. I will do my best to remember from now on. I need to erect a flag pole.

I don't regulary fly the flag at my house. I don't equate that with patriotism for myself. It bothers me to no end to see a flag improperly displayed and I don't have lights to display at it at night. We did at one point have a German exchange student staying at our house. They did remark on how many places here display the flag as opposed to Europe. I love my country, but I don't feel the need to fly the flag everyday.

Yes and I take it down at night because I do not have a light to shine directly on it. I belive that is the right treatment , take it down at night unless you have a light on it?

Funny you should ask..........my wife and I are in the planning stage now, I need to figure out how to put light to the base of a pole. No HOA to worry about, we're on 5 acres out in the desert.........just have to worry about the observatory complaining. Anyone have any ideas short of burying electrical cable out to the base?

Maybe look into solar set ups at the base of the pole, Dont know how powerful they might be but figure with all the "go green!" pushes out there now that there has to be something available. And given your in the desert would seem to be a good fit, would cost you less to run and would be easier to install.

At a time when your country is going thru it's present crisis (similar to ours) flying your flag is what made you strong and will keep you strong. With my deepest appreciation of the American flag I say fly your flag. Stay strong and fight for freedom, economic stability, and family values.....as you always have.....with renewed vigour.
May god bless America.

Old Glory flies at my house when I'm home and my shop when I'm working there. Plus I got a beautiful cloth veterans memorial flag at a garage sale that I drape over the railing on special occasions.

When I bought my house the previous owner (a retired LA county fireman, passed away at the age of 89) had carved a custom flag pole and anchored it in a block of cement in the corner of the front yard. His kids or something drew a buffalo and an elk in the sides of the block when the cement was wet. It isn't the nicest set up in the world, but Old Glory still flies from there every day. I have several neighbors who do the same thing, one an Army vet who also flies the POW-MIA flag. No one would have the guts or the lack of brains to come into my neighborhood and ask us to take them down.

But, to properly fly the flag isn't hard and if you take it down at night, there is no need to put a light on it.

Wow. I fly a flag and have for many years from my front porch.
76.52% responding also fly a flag.
I do not see anywhere near that % in driving around anywhere.
Very patriotic bunch on this site.....or......
only 115 people have responded out of 657 views. If the other 542 do not fly a flag that would make the % 13.4 which is more in line with what you see in reality.
Sad.

We have had flags stolen out of our yard. The first one was during my first deployment. The state police endind up sitting outside of my house almost nightly until I got back. The only two flags I have now mean far to much to put outside. One was on the casket of my grandfather, and the other I ran up over a palace in Iraq after we took it over in 2003.

Ironic! Today got a letter from the Landlord that rent will go up 10 bucks in January. It also had some new rules and one was "tenants may not affix any personal objects to the property" and at the bottom it asked me to remove the flag holder from the balcony railing:angry:!
I REFUSE!!! I left him a message that I will not remove it and intend to fly my flag as always!!!

My dad died a service connected death when I was 8. So, I decided when I bought my 2nd house that it was going to have a 24/7 lighted flag in his honor. When I bought my current home, the huge circle driveway was just begging for a lighted flagpole in the center. I rounded up some of the largest boulders I could find added dirt in the middle to raise the ground higher, and installed a 25' lighted pole.

I don't fly it daily, but I try7 to fly it for the typical days (and usually a few days before and after)... Mine's just one of those 2X4 or 3X5 flags attached to the front of the house...

Last time I put it up in the morning, we were running late, but I still made my 6-year old recite the Pledge of Alligence... One of my neighbors flys his constantly (on the house, but no light), and he commented about me and my kids and the Pledge...

I haven't seen my neighbors fly any, even on Holidays... :(

Everyday... but not at night as I do not have a spotlight.

Attention to U.S. Flag etiquette is sort of a passion for me. I was eating dinner at a local fast food joint several years ago, and was pleasantly surprised to see an employee lowering the flag outside at dusk. But that's where the pleasant part ended. He proceeded to wad the flag up under his arm like a piece of used aluminum foil, and with one corner dragging the ground, took it back inside and presumably threw it in the corner of the office. Next day I sent a letter to the owner of the local franchise letting him know how insulted I was. Well, to make a long story short, the owner enlisted a group of local Boy Scouts to come in and give his employees a short "in service" on flag etiquette. This gentleman is the franchisee for several area Burger King restaurants, and since that that time, I have not witnessed any disrespect for the flag at any of his restaurants.
If you're intested, the website below is pretty good reading...

Its as easy as searching for "American Made American Flags" but hey that would take some effort now wouldn't it? There are some states that have even passed laws REQUIREING all flags sold in that state to be American made.

I'd stick one of those packages in the manager's face and ask him how many Chinese nationals shop in his store. Then I'd start emailing corporate.

I was amazed today while out shopping I picked up a few things not expecting anythign but "made in China" and was very suprised to find the following things at Orchard Supply and our local Ace Made in the USA.

AT ACE Hardware- toilet filler, toilet flap, toilet tank to bowl kit (all plastic)-Sacramento CA

At OSH- small yard flags "Made in USA"

I bought the toilet parts as I needed them, and they were even a couple dollars more.
