Does anybody know of someone making a valve spring shim that will take up the clearance created from removing the rotator. Needs to be about 0.200" thick, or am I just gonna have to use a few shims?

Thanks
Steve

I see Comp Cams makes them for BB, but I need some for SB. BB look to thick to work.

Also I am gonna be running LT4 springs so they are 1.32" OD

Thanks

Steve,
Make sure that you need them first. A lot of the small blocks that had rotators used two different hgt springs. I have never seen spacers for a small block, and dont think we have ever needed them.

I checked the spring pockets. The exhaust are definetley cut deeper. I just measured a few of them and came up with an average of 0.120" deeper. On a side note the intake installed height is about 1.7" so I need to shim the exhaust.

Initially I thought they were closer to 0.200" deep. But after finding out they are only 0.120" deeper I should be fine with 2 0.060" shims under each one.

Something else along the same lines. The heads are 305HO heads so they are thin casting heads. To run the LT4 springs I am gonna need to open up the pockets. I have a Comp 1.44" seat cutter, but I am worried about hitting a water passage with the thin casting. Maybe I'll just run some Z28 springs.

Thanks
Steve

BillK,

Is it possible to drop rotators in some carb. cleaner and get them really clean and then work something like JBWeld into them so that after it sets up, they become solid and can't rotate!!

Or, heck, maybe even solder them solid??

And just use them as shims..

Can't tell you about SB rotators, but that will not work for BB. The rotator is not flat where the spring rides, it is slightly tapered/angled, and you'd have problems getting an inner spring to fit.

The BB rotator replacement shims are .300 thick. Had to use two sets on my L-29 heads.
