: Funniest Local Television ads.
The Deejay Sep 29th, 08, 5:05 PM For the fellas from central Alabama or who can remember this far back....In the 60s a company named Harry Charles Piano was running their locally produced tv ads.. The old owner, Harry himself , must have been in his 80s and did his own speaking ads. After telling you about all his name brand organs and pianos, he would pause and say "Remember our convenient layaway plan.. For only $25.00, we"ll hold your organ till Christmas. Me and my my dad still die laughing whenever either one of us bring this up.. Mom never knew why we laughed so hard.
One other one was a used car lot called Big Hearted Eddies. We used to call and ask for Big Headed Arties. Never failed to get get cussed out on that one.. Owner wasn't amused ... Share some of yours.
mmurphy77 Sep 29th, 08, 5:18 PM I remember years ago, somewhere out West, seeing a car sales ad on TV where the guy would say, "If I can't sell you a car, I'll eat a bug!" Maybe some of you "other Coast" guys remember it more.
Bomber '67 Sep 30th, 08, 12:21 AM Mike, that was Cal Worthington - his ads are legend. I think they could make an entire movie about all the ads that Cal made.

Yeah, thanks Thomas, that was the guy!
pnugene Sep 30th, 08, 10:13 PM In Birmingham a local Ford dealer named Jim Skinner did his own TV spots. He was a little wormy guy who did his ads wearing nothing but a wooden barrel with suspenders holding it up. He said his salesmen were selling the cars so cheap it "Makes my liver quiver" and his dealership was the place "Where a hundred dollars says we'll beat your best deal Reeegaaaardless"
Bomber '67 Sep 30th, 08, 11:57 PM Okay, maybe not a movie - but youtube has the Cal Worthington commercials that I grew up with: YouTube - go see cal
The dude was everywhere on late night T.V. He had a number of dealerships and the story has it that he spent upwards of $500,000 a month on advertising all his dealerships at his peak.

I remember Cal Worthington ads from the late 80s early 90s but they were more restrained. Maybe Cal wasn't even in them...
A bit off topic, but Ross Perot. Born comedian and bidnessman. Search for some election speeches.

I remember his TV commericals from Alaska when I was there in the early 90s. "Go see Cal, go see Cal, go see Cal."
