I had a fire about a year back that burned the dash/firewall area in my '72 convertible (http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=193036). I am finally about to get the car to the body shop for repairs.

I plan to have my body guy replace the firewall and lower cowl (due to warping from the heat). I was happy to see that both pieces are now available new. I have some questions:

Is the firewall/lower cowl for a convertible the same as for a coupe?
Is it possible to replace the lower cowl without removing/damaging the VIN tag?
What do you recommend as far as attaching the body/trim tag to the new cowl? Do I need to source some special rivets or tools?
Any help/advice you have to share will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Here's some info for the cowl tag rivets:

Use the CTR2 rivets

This one has an installation tool:

The firewall should be the same. The actual front body mounts may differ. The dynacorn firewall comes with the single bushing type, while some coupes and convertibles had the double bushing type. When I did the firewall on my 68 conv. I removed the front bodymounts from the new firewall and reinstalled the originals from my car.It was easy, they fit just fine.By the way,I have never heard a real explanation of why some A-bodies have single bushing front mounts and some have doubles, and most later coupes seem to have the doubles as well as convertibles, but not all.
