I need some prices to get an idea of what it will/should cost to have my block: bored with torque plate, decked, align honed,balanced... I've never had this kind of work done before,,,just gettin some figures together to know what its gonna cost me. My 049's are in the shop gettin bigger valves, clearanced, bowl blend, pocket port as I type. This guy wants to do the whole shortblock,he's talking 3500-4000 for assembly also, I have no problem assembling the motor.

Wow! That sounds very expensive to me. I had a 454 bored .060, decked, crank ground .010, crank rehardened and polished, rods reconditioned including the small end bushed, everything balanced. I bought the pistons and I assembled everything. This shop is known to do good work and is NOT cheap, and the total machining bill was under $1500.00 No cylinder head work was included in that price. Hope that helps.

If I were doing it, about $800 adding Thermal cleaning, decking to a specific height, final wash after honing & installing cam bearings assuming nothing special in the balance but pricing varies around the country & also shop to shop.

I am not the cheapest nor "fastest" shop in my area but feel we do pretty fair work at a fair price.

Of course,, pricing does vary on occasion depending on customer attitude :D

Here is what I paid $160 bore with torque plates,90 deck,100 align hone $350 balance. I assembled myself, with great attention to detail. This is basic machine work. You just need to find a shop compitant enough to do this.

Robert, when I had my 496 built, the total was just under $3200 for parts and labor at Speed-O-Motive.

I provided the block, flex plate, dampner, heads, cam, valves and springs. They provided the cast steel stroker crank, I-beam rods, forged 10:1 probe pistons. The block was bored with a torque plate, align honed, decked, the rotating assembly was balanced, the heads were cut for bigger valves and pocket ported. They assembled the short block. The cost of the stroker rotating assembly was only a couple hundred more than re-using my crank and rods.
