: My new ride
1BLACKHARLEY Sep 29th, 08, 11:06 AM I've been toying with the idea of a new bike. I rode the heck out of my current ride and figured it was time to upgrade, so i went in friday night and started the ground work, pissed off as many salesman as i could.....
Saturday, i get up, and the wife and i head in to the dealership, the sales guys scatter, and the manager walks up and we start the dance. i tell him after 30+ years riding and 10 bikes, i've never bought one from him, because they usually suck at deals. Well, after 6 1/2 hours, i finally got what i wanted, and we rode home on this.....

I envy you. That's the motorcycle I always wanted. But those riding days are over for me. If I was able that's what I would have and I would be gone!
Like what kind of gizmos does it have? It's been a few years since I checked one out.
69badboy Sep 29th, 08, 11:33 AM This is something I'm glad to see HD finally do.

gps/mp3.. compatable, cd player, cb radio, anti lock breaks, cylinder drop off, 6 speed, fuel injected, emergency mode to let you ride bike to safety in case of catastrophic failure. throttle by wire, helmet- helmet communication, bike to bike communication, cruise control......
personally, i'd have been fine with a basic black one (1blackharley) but the wife saw this one, and she made me finally take the step up and quite cheaping out. this is #4480 of 7000 limited edition. now to be honest, the paint scheme isn't for everybody, or they wouldn't still be on the floor, but the wife liked it, and i wanted a new ride, so it worked for me...
Andy69 Sep 29th, 08, 11:38 AM cool
69badboy Sep 29th, 08, 11:42 AM if momma aint happy nobody is....:D
Cameano Sep 29th, 08, 11:59 AM Wow, bike to bike comms now? Sweet! Nice ride, Bill.
BTW, not to stray off topic, but a guy I see at car shows once in a while was asking what needed to be done to get a title on a car that the P.O. passed away 10 years ago. After 5 years, it's wiped off the computers here, no if there's no title sitting around, it's toast, can't be used for nothin' but parts. He says the car is too nice to part out, though. And it's your dream car, a '61 Ventura.
sschevellefan Sep 29th, 08, 12:03 PM congrats Bill. The new ones are getting pretty "techy" these days. Some of the touring models have a problem with the drive by wire. When you start it it will rev real high and then settle down. I don`t work for a dealer anymore but I heard there is a download available to fix that. I haven`t heard of any other issues. Good luck with it Bill.
Removed Sep 29th, 08, 12:08 PM SWEET !!! You gonna change your handle now to 1GOLDHARLEY???

just doesn't have the same ring to it.........after twenty some bikes, all have been black, except my first one (primer blue) and this one copper/black. the reason the wife liked this one, wasn't only the color, but it has little badges (jewelry) on it......

you know, i've run up against this on a few occasions, and AAA has always been able to get around it, and i think there is a title company on this site now, that may be able to help. those 61's bring big $$ around here, i've seen fairly beat up example go for 20k+. there are two running around this area, a red one, and then the dream car, a 61 white, with 4-speed. someday i'll have one, it may have my b.b. and muncie in it, but i'll get one somehow....
T-Man Sep 29th, 08, 1:13 PM Nice bike! I just toured the HD plant in York a few weeks ago and am headed back to York tomorrow.
The wife and I bought a raffle ticket in town last weekend to hopefully win the same bike including a two up trailer. What's the trailer for? :D
webfoot Sep 29th, 08, 1:32 PM Awesome bike, congrats! Is it that exact color too?

Good Luck Dude, That Would Be An Awsome Prize...
1BLACKHARLEY Sep 29th, 08, 1:36 PM Awesome bike, congrats! Is it that exact color too?
yes, it's not really my preference, but it actually looks better in person than picture, besides, i really don't care much what color it is, as long as it has bars an engine and i get to ride it....
OrrieG Sep 29th, 08, 2:29 PM emergency mode to let you ride bike to safety in case of catastrophic failure
They sold you a rope???? Looks cool and a lot of fun. 6.5 hours, must have been interesting, did you even look at any other dealerships, has to be more than one in SoCal.
hpsherlin Sep 29th, 08, 2:34 PM Killer!!
Happy trails. When you gonna ride cross the country up here to my neck of the woods and ride these mountain roads such as the dragon's tail?
Look me up and I'll give you a guided trip.

that is one i hope to hit some day. i actually live in rider heaven, can't spit without hitting a back road, yes california has as many, if not more back roads than you'd think. i have heard for years about the dragon, some of my friends have been on it. i do hear you have to time it right, that sometimes too many bikes makes it less enjoyable, but if you hit it right, it's supposed to be superb. we have things like the 33, the 158, the 153, decker canyon, the 2, and countless, off shoots, being able to ride 300+ days a year, really is nice.
i hope to someday take you up on your offer, problem is, even thought i ride the hell out of these things, my ride is just a couch in a sea of ferrari's these days. lots of crotch rockets out there...

a rope, that made me smile....yeah, there are plenty of dealers in socal, and beleive it or not, some are actually closing. this economy has killed several bike dealers in my area, not just harley. anyway, after looking at several dealerships, this place had what we were looking for. 6.5 hours is just me being stubborn and fighting for every penny, especially if i'm hungry, i get real awnry, finally my wife had to tell me to shut my trap and sign the peperwork. i'm not the kind of guy who looks at m.s.r.p. and cuts a check.
ed3196499 Sep 29th, 08, 4:23 PM SWEET!! I was joking around the other night and told the wife I was thinking of getting a new bike and she gave me the green light....(Could be a trap) I am going to wait until my truck is done and the baby is born before I spring for one. I am looking at the crossbones:thumbsup:
cessnarob Sep 29th, 08, 4:29 PM Real Nice 2 Wheeler..Congrats!! I don't have one anymore...:pout:
rubadub Sep 29th, 08, 5:50 PM I had to look at it twice, very nice Bill.
Rod Sep 30th, 08, 12:13 AM I love the colour scheme........the wife wants the velle painted a burnt orange bronze colour or something close.
Big James 4XL Sep 30th, 08, 9:55 AM NICE! You'll enjoy that one!!!
Dealer I bought my VRSCD from had a killer deal on a low milage 08 Road King but I opted for the "wet head" instead.
1badss396 Sep 30th, 08, 10:10 AM Congrats on the new bike and ride safe.
ed3196499 Oct 5th, 08, 9:43 PM I was on a charity ride today and one of the guys there had the same bike, That color combo looks great in person. Hows it riding?
