: no-hop selection

Looking at no-hops and am wondering if anyone besides Art Morrison and Dick Miller have no hop setups with multiple holes to choose from? Both only sell kits... hate to shell out 400+ for a set of uppers and no-hops when I already got adj. uppers.

I'll take that as a no I guess... doh! graemlins/clonk.gif

I'm gonna have to think about fabbing something up for no hops or to relocate the upper front mounts down to relocate suspension points.

Can someone post a picture of how no hops are mounted and how traction bars are mounted?

Do the traction bars attach to the rear lower control arm mount and then the brace replaces the upper to lower triangulation bar or am I off?

I want to know and see some pics before I decide for sure which I want to buy.

I'm not for sure what traction bars you mean, I usually think of those as slapper bars on leaf spring cars.

The no-hop bars attach to the upper bushing on the rear end, and move the pivot location up about 3".

The SSM and Metco bars were a pivot bracket that attached to the lower bushing mount, and moved the pivot point about 2" down.

I have wanted to start a thread for a long while on comparing these two pro/cons. I know each of them have their own fitment issues, but do not know how they compare as a traction aid.

I *believe* that the SSM's hit the tires harder than the upper relocation bracket. It has something to do with the instant center moving back further, and the rear end separates more, and they attempt to plant the tires harder.

I am curious about this also, as I am running a stick car, and have heard the SSM's are to violent for a stick car....

Jeg's sells "lift bars" which will relocate the center of gravity for a much better launch ....so I've been told. My Jegster lift bars for my '70 are on their way via Fed Ex as we speak. $184 graemlins/thumbsup.gif

this style is what I'm referring to, but I can find them for about $100

EDIT:

foudn this diagram on mr gasket website

What does everyone think of using these to stop wheel hop? I think they look like a better overall investment than no hop bars since they seem to also serve for keeping traction unrelated to hop but I could be wrong, thats why I'm looking for ideas ;)

I put the edelbrock antihops on my 67 ss and there is no more wheelhop just tire smoke

This has been brought up many times, some prefer the no hop bars, some the ssm lift bars, some use the slapper style, some replace the bushings with polyurethane and use aftermarket control arms. I think the results with each differ from vehicle to vehicle because of to many variables. Different amounts of power will have different results, ride height I'm sure has a lot to do with what works best. From what I gather the most important feature on all of the lift bars and anti hops is it increases the negative angle of the pinion so the rearend seperates from the body at launch as the pinion and driveshaft try to come into alignment.

If you draw a diagram of the intersection points for the SSM's and the hop stops (at least for the Edelbrock's that I have) the SSM's have a instant center that is further forward and a bit higher. For this reason I think they hit a bit softer at least compared to the Edelbrock's as I said before. I like the ssm's and they are what I have been using the past 2 years. I would like to go back with a hop stop like Dick Miller's or Art Morrison that has multiple holes and adjustable uppers as I believe there is probably some more to be had with my setup, but for the cost I am not going to mess with what has been working great (i.e. 7 wins, 9 finals, and 1 track championship in the last 2 years). My opinion is don't even consider the Mr. Gasket slapper bars. Have you ever seen a Stocker with those pieces of crap up under them? Should tell you something.

I use the Edelbrock no hops with adjustable uppers. The car 60's 1.48 consistently. Pinion angle is set at 6 deg. The car (3900 lbs) leaves violently! There's a couple of recent pictures of the launch at www.pscaracing.com. (http://www.pscaracing.com.) Go to Results/Records, click the 10.60 index banner and then click on summer nats. and also on labor day nats. I'm not trying to plug for Edlelbrock, but I've been very pleased with their pieces.
