Will a .038" quench distance be too tight to run on this street 489BB?

This is what I have finalized for my Fall '04 489 project with the following specs:

489
GM '063 iron Closed Ovals w/2.19 intake valves
9.6 CR/7.9 DCR
4.25 crank
6.385 rods
.010 deck height
.028 GM thin head gasket
4.37 gasket bore
Flat top pistons (-3cc's)

Cam will be the 4021ALUN small solid
with 272/272 adv. dur. (238/238 @ .050, and .550/.550 lift)

My thinking was that the tight .038 quench would work well with a flat top piston as far as an efficient "burn". I'm open to any last minute changes to this combo if anyone sees a potential problem area.

Thanks, Charles

.035-.045 is ideal

Ditto what Nick said, I normally run the piston .005 down to zero with a .040 gasket.

Your thinking is right on, tight quench does nothing but good graemlins/thumbsup.gif

With regards to a tight quench (.035"-.040") and a BBC, do you gain much advantage when using open chamber heads?
Is quench still critical when using open chambers?
I wasn't sure if the effect came mainly when using closed chamber heads.
