I finally found a 400 standard bore block. I was originally thinking forged pistons but am now contemplating kb hyper(less cost). Does my plan sound ok. This is for a street driver,
Scat 9000 crank
Scat 5.7 rods
KB147 18cc dish pistons

817 400 block standard bore, bored .030 over
Decked to 9.005
I think this should give me 10.06-1 compr. with a .044 quench. I will be using my vortec heads
The machinist wants the pistons to measure before machining. I didn't realize this till now so I have to order the parts first.

Sound good?

Sounds good to me. KB pistons are great for the street and moderate racing.

Yeah, if you're not going to push the engine hard you'll be fine with hyper pistons. We've put lots of miles (and runs) on the hypers in the 350, and it is doing just fine.

I would think you'd only want forged pistons if you were going to use a blower, nitrous, or rev it hard.

for not a lot more cash you can get wiseco forged pistons with rings and pins..theyre called protru..lighter weight than the KBs too

I might rethink this. I just rechecked my pricing and I can get the wiseco or JE for about $200.00 more. I have to admit I am having a problem on their websites determining which piston for my application. Wiseco has a 20cc dish 4.155 bore but not sure what rod length its for.
I guess my biggest question, is do I need forged?

If you have any plans for a blower, nitrous, or turning it faster than 6500 get the forged. If not the hypers will do just fine.
