This may sound minor, but it's actually a major accomplishment to a computer illiterate like myself. A couple of months ago my current Explorer stopped connecting to the internet and I let some Chinese guy talk me into going with Firefox. Good deal, except for no longer being able to chat on this site and do many of the other things that were frequently done on other sites. The Firefox plug-in box was driving me nuts. Well, I went out on a limb and called the BellSouth dummy-line again and was connected to a Phillipono girl and she got me connected once again with Internet Explorer. Not knowing who I was speaking to or where she was located, I felt like I was bothering someone calling this late at night. I was pleasantly surprised when she told me it was 1:05 in the afternoon....tomorrow!:D

I've been using Firefox for a long time now and never have a problem. It's more secure than IE, and more efficient memory-wise. I just tried chat and it worked. Sorry you had a problem with it and good luck with IE. I try to avoid Microsoft software when I can. Tends to work like it was written by software engineers (it is) rather than users.

Yeah, I'm using FF now and chat works. I'm glad I switched to Linux but man is it maddening trying to do things that would be done for me in Windows.

I have both. It took a little time to get used to FF after I started using it. But I like it better and now use it exclusively.

My son loves Linux, but has literally spent years getting to do what he wants! It's more of an anti-Microsoft thing for him.

Guess I don't understand how, if a couple of months ago your current Explorer stopped connecting to the internet you managed to get some Chinese guy to talk to into Firefox. Where did you get Firefox? From the internet you stopped being able to connect to?

Which version of Firefox did you get? I have 2.0.0.17 but only use it for a couple of plugins I find handy. Otherwise it stays shut because there are more ways to browse than just Firefox; Internet Explorer, Opera and Safari just to name a few. I haven't updated to the newer version of Firefox yet and probably won't until the plugins I use are updated to work with it. Stable, safe, secure? Vers. 3 hasn't been out that long and already 3.0.2 was released to fix 11 vulnerabilities and the next day Mozilla said the overlooked a password bug and had to rush 3.0.3. I have nothing againt Firefox but it's not the cure-all to security and browsing the Internet and certainly not the only way to web surf.

So, tell us about Internet Explorer version 8. I thought it was still in beta?

The guy I spoke to helped me reset my password which is what was keeping me from connecting to the internet using Explorer. Once I was able to reconnect I tried a few things to make sure everything was normal. Well for some reason I was unable to access some of my sites. When I asked the Chinese guy what he thought about this, he said he could fix the problem, but recommended me to install Firefox because it's a more secure browser. I went ahead and did this. I'm not sure what version it is. I used Firefox for a couple of months and liked it okay all except that I was always being prompted to install a plug-in that wouldn't install when I ran through the installation process. I finally had enough of this limited-browsing and decided to fix my Explorer. Now I have use of Firefox and Explorer 8 and can access anything I could before. I really haven't had a chance to thoroughly check out Explorer 8, but I did notice that the address bar is much more user friendly.
