: 1967 Interior Restore Help
TerryK67 Sep 26th, 08, 10:30 AM Hello all...I have a 67 SS, Maderia Maroon with a black interior. Im going to remove and redo my complete interior this winter and I'm looking for any advice you may have...paint, good things to do with the complete interior out, etc, etc...I have collected all the catologs and printed out about 100 pages of info from the forum but thought I would just throw out a post and collect any info that others may have...
I guess my one main area of concern is paint for the metal parts of the dash and I dont mind if I have to take them to a body shop to have them done right, but I do want the paint to be as close to correct as possible. Can you give me some specifics on the paint such as where/what type to buy?
Also, are all of the metal parts of the dash removable...including the top metal part close to the windshield? I think I have read that it is welded in? If so, how have folks redone that?
I'm in the Air Force in South Dakota and gettign ready to retire (Im a 67 model as well :) and I'm trying to get all the last details done on the car.
thanks in advance!! Terry ....
hbcruiser Sep 26th, 08, 11:58 AM Hello Terry
the upper part of the dash is welded to the body. When I painted the dash in my 67, the windshield was removed which is what I recomend. You will have to buy a new one because they always break removing them.
If you take your car to a body shop for the paint they can supply the paint, most shops are using PPG or Dupont in my area.

BigBocks66SS Sep 26th, 08, 12:31 PM If you are keeping your interior black, I would recommend taking the dash completely out of the car, and carrying it to a body shop, and have it painted professionally with base coat, clear coat. As for the very front top, like Jeff said, it is welded in, and not easily removed, and like he suggests, it is much easier to restore with the windshield out, actually, I know that there is hardly any room to get to it with the windshield in. But when you do restore it, make sure that you use a low gloss paint so that you don't get a glare from the sun reflecting off of the dash and onto the windsheild. I used the interior black trim paint that www.eastwood.com sales, it is made by Sems, and is a high quality paint in a rattle can. I used it for alot of my interior, including my console. Works great on plastic or steel. HTH, Jim
oldtimeparts Sep 26th, 08, 3:51 PM I removed my dash and had it powder coated it came out beautiful, cheaper than the local body shop painting it. The very top next to the windshield I painted myself. I would do it all over again !!

That is a great idea!
67shovel Sep 29th, 08, 9:40 AM IMHO I'd use what the factory used.....black lacquer for the metal and flattened lacqer for the upper dash. I don't think they had BC/CC or powder coating back then did they?
cuisinartvette Sep 29th, 08, 8:01 PM ya know I never considered powdercoat. Hmm.
Anyone know what size and how many bolts hold the dash in? Any seals, felt or gaskets used?
