: 1966 Impala SS427 Convertible.
Chris R Sep 25th, 08, 11:35 PM I dont know how to document these cars or how to really tell if one is real or not. This sure does look sharp and if indeed it is real, I would think that BIN is quite a bargain.

dpvoiceguy Sep 26th, 08, 7:13 AM Gorgeous car regardless! But you'd better have all day to wax that beast!
BigBocks66SS Sep 26th, 08, 9:16 AM I believe that the "original SS wheels in the trunk" are off a 69 Chevelle SS?, And a frame off restoration and they installed the old carpet? Anyway, if it is a true matching #'s car, it would be a nice one to have. The door jamb tag looks unaltered with the correct rivets. I don't understand why they removed the cowl tag and lost it though.
66L78 Sep 26th, 08, 10:02 AM Without the cowl tag, bad, bad, bad
oldtimebaseballfan Sep 26th, 08, 11:03 AM The ad states the car was a frame off resto in 71 and has been garaged and rarely driven since.
That car has too many rusty bolts and the frame rails do not look like they belong to a frame off resto.
I agree about the carpet.
Those wheels weren't even made in 66.
Without some documentation, I would be very careful with anything the seller says.
The engine code ID is correct for a 427 425 4 speed passenger car and the VIN is correct for a 1966 Impala SS V8. The VIN won't tell what V8.
Therefore you will need someone very knowledgeable about engine stamping to verify if that is the original stamp. Also look for the casting date on the engine.
1BLACKHARLEY Sep 26th, 08, 11:22 AM i agree, for a car that has had a frame off, it has quite a bit of patina, that said, i'd love to have that car (change the white for black interior) and in socal, that car would be resonably priced, i've seen fairly worn out examples go for 28-30k, and those were 396 cars.
i would guess in different regions, the price could be considered crazy, and personally if i had 30k, i wouldn't spend it on that car, but i sure would like to own it. i love big body g.m. cars, and that one is almost the ultimate ride in that genre. what a neat ride....
blm Sep 26th, 08, 12:54 PM I think it's a nice ride as well. Not too crazy about the blue paint. I like the white interior, maybe the exterior would look better in black.
66 L78 ragtop Sep 26th, 08, 9:22 PM 35 K is a little steep for this fake re-stamped car. A real motor 427/425 66 convertible 4 speed would bring 150 ish.
704EVER Sep 26th, 08, 9:46 PM I'm not sold on the pad pictures either. Pads are too easy to clean and take a clear picture of to buy into these pictures. The broaching marks don't look original either, as they appear to have an arch to them.
floyd66 Sep 26th, 08, 10:27 PM 1966 Impala SS427 Convertible 4 speed is my all time favorite Impala. I would sell my mother for one.
This isn't one.

:hurray: The 1966 Impala SS427/425 Convt 4 speed is my dream car. I have been looking for a real car and have yet to find one.
A 427/390 conv. 4 speed with factory AC would be the runner -up. The 425hp is by far my first choice.
Although the car on e-bay is fake, at least the guys that faked it out have the right idea with regard to the ultimate impala.
"I would sell my mother for one"...Funny Tom!
Luis Sep 27th, 08, 11:30 AM Beautiful car, nontheless. Great color combo, also.
james a larson Sep 27th, 08, 2:19 PM Nice car, there is a legitimate 66 convert here in town; but it's a 327, butternet yellow, black top & interior.
