The question is...
What do YOU think it's worth? ;)
You're on only one who knows how much you've got into it and what you're looking to get back out of it.
After you get that figured out, place an ad in the classifieds.

Hmmm send me some pictures, thats what I want to build, maybe we can work something out smile.gif Pnutkemist@yahoo.com I thought a .30 over with 4.25 crank was a 489? Sounds pretty sweet though....

Wow I was actually right.. hah! .100 or .125 over, ive heard about boring blocks that much, I keep hearing mixed feelings about going that high. Some guys try to stear me away from going even .60 over, there like nooo then the block will be maxed out, blah blah. But even if it was maxed out how many times will I personally take this out and rebuild the same block. Not likely! OK, I dont know...

Im planning a build similar to yours. Who knows what will happen!

Jason, just as a point of reference, I have a "bid" in to buy a 510" rat from a friend if he sells his car ( it's worth hardly anything in the resale of the car)

GenV block 4.5" bore, Dart Pro1's, Crane SR cam ( too small!), Callies 4" crank, Crower rods, SRP, etc. $3000 sans intake ( a tripower ). Runs MINT with around 10K on it. I'd have to help R&R it and put a "spray can special" motor in the car though. still, alot of motor for $3 considering he has double into the longblock.

Although your motor is fresh, I don't know if it would be worth much more as you start competing with $5000 crates.

I might end up holding on the block at this point, and just sell the car and all my acessories...
I can always use it when I get done with college :D

The crate thing is really what messes up your price point. However, your competition is GM's 502, not people like Ebrock or mitchell. I bought a new mitchell crate for $8K and spent another $5K making it run. The engine was complete crap so it required tear down, machine work to equalize everything, new balance, new parts, etc, etc. Then I put another $2K into it in other stuff (MSD, Demon, Meziere, etc). Backing out the $6800 settlement the TX/MI/NY combined attorneys general got me, the engine has less than 300 miles on it and I wanted to sell it for $7K. It dyno'd 647hp and has all the good stuff - 220/64cc aluminum heads, victor, scat, comp cams roller hydraulic, SRP, Lunati, Milodon - a solid, balanced, blueprinted build. Nada - hardly any bites at all. Offers around $3K and such.

So, I'm giving it to my brother. I'm still waiting on my 572 (only 4-6 more weeks I hope) and since he wants to start a project with his kids I thought I'd give him a good platform.

Bottom line, the motors we build personally are probably much better than most of the junk that comes out of the supposed "crate" guys. But, that is unfortunately where the price gets set. Eventhough they are having a very, very tough time selling their own product (except GM - they have a backlog a mile long), these other crate guys are holding the value down.

Best,

Mike H.

I would sell it complete and ask $4500

Sell it all complete!Taking it apart you might eventually end up virtually giving some of the stuff away.(Depending on how bad you need some cashand how quickly)
Buying engines complete, with all due respect, however can be a bit of a gamble for the buyer as well.(caveat emptor)
Therefore you have to consider a balance of the two interests.(Yours and the potential "bona fide" buyer, as there are lots of sharks looking for steals)
My suggestion; $6000-$7500

Thanks for all the replys guys...
This has made me rethink my decision... I may just cover it up and keep it oiled while I go to school... Im not going to just let it go for nothing. Too much time and effort in it ;) :D
Thanks all,
Jason
