: Used Pair of Doors, 70-72
dpvoiceguy Sep 25th, 08, 3:52 PM My driver's door skin has a decent sized dent from the previous owner's stupidity. I can't get to the back to push it out due to the impact beam being in the way, and I've never changed a skin before.
I met a guy who has a '70 and his doors have no dents, no bondo (other than a skim coat), but have a small amount of "typical" rust in the lower front corner. I have access to all the sheet metal I need and can weld in patches.
He's going to think of a number he'd like to get for the pair and then call me back. Knowing that they're factory doors that will need some degree of work, what is a reasonable $ to expect to pay? (No glass...I will swap mine over)
CRUZN69 Sep 25th, 08, 4:26 PM I just sold a pair of loaded 70 doors for $250.
dpvoiceguy Sep 25th, 08, 4:55 PM By loaded you mean including glass, regulators, etc., correct?
What was the condition of the sheetmetal?

With no knowledge of how to change a door skin I'm apprehensive to try it. A guy I was talking to at a local cruise night said it's harder than hanging a 1/4 panel because of how much you need to do to get it lined up right. I ain't attmepting to hang a full 1/4 myself either!
I'm torn! What to do??

Yes, glass, reg, door panels, handles, just like they came off the car. The condition was excellent, they came off an AZ car.

I replaced the skin on my 67, and I am probably the worst bodyman you had ever seen. I actually thought it was fairly easy, and it turned out nice. I do have a 1/4 panel to do also, but I'm thinking I better sub this one out
To bad you're not a little closer. I have a complete door off of a 72 that has been sitting in the basement for at least 25 years

Damn, where were you when I needed you, man??!!!:D

Hmmm...if my company had a customer a little further into PA I'd make an excuse to get out there! ;)
And thanks for the tip on the door skin. There's a part of me that just wants to dive in and do it. What's the worst that happens...I screw it up and go find a new door, right? Some of the greatest lessons have a cost attached to them!
