: Converter Install

I can only slide my trans back about 4" before the crossmember hits those little connectors inthe middle of the frame rails. Is this enough room to install a converter w/o dropping the trans? (I suspect not?)
Also, what sort of slip percentage do you guys think is doable in a 3400-3600rpm 9.5" converter, or in a converter in general?
The guy was like, why do you want it so low? I explained what I did with the car and said what I did with the car, and he still seemed a little surprised.
And out more for the performance crowd, since I didn't want the converter guy to think I wanted some sort of bracket racing converter, I didn't bring this up.
If your torque peak is +- 5 ft-lbs (about) from 3500 to like 5300, why would it make a difference (would it) to put it at the +5 ft-lbs spot? Wouldn't it make just as much sense to put it at the lowest part of your torque "peak?"
Whether or not I net any gain out of this at the track, I am hoping this converter will kill the sensation of "1 or two cylinders coming online" at 2800rpm. I get more go from my pickup truck up a hill @ 2000rpm than my chevelle, but I'd bet big money my velle motor makes more torque at idle than the truck does at peak..
The converter company I talked to said he thinks 1-2, maybe 3mph is possible but I may get absolutely nothing other than better feel and mileage out of it.

Thanks

Hi Matt, That's a very nice '70 SS and Fathom Blue is my favorite color for that year. Good luck on your quest for 120 MPH. Just curious, what brand of converter are you putting in?

I posted some more about the converter over the trans forum. I was told to "just pick" between dynamic converters and the original art carr guy (not the stuff sold as art carr now apparently). I went with dynamic because its a bit cheaper and my cam guy orders converters from them all the time.
I put the 28" tall tires on hold for this thing, so I hope I made the right decision. All the evidence points here, but heck, I've been wrong before..

Hi Matt, I've heard real good things about Frank Lupo's Dynamic Converters. A local mopar builder uses them almost exclusively and they always seem to work well. My son likes the ATIs and they seem very dependable also.
