I've been looking for wheels and tires slowly for my 70 but am not sure what to get yet. I have a few questions about dimensions:
What is section width?
For instance take two of M/T tires.
One ET Street:
28x11.50x15,
Section: 10.9"
Tread: 8.6"
One ET Drag:
28x10.5x15
Section Width: 11.7"
Tread: 10"
My Question is when I'm looking at these tires which tire is the bigger tire? Basically my confusion is when at first glance I see the 28x11.5 and think right away that it is bigger, but I don't know what all of these numbers mean.

Matt, the ET drag is bigger..the larger Section Width/tread width is always the measurement to go by,at least to my understanding.Little confusing.

Thanks Chris, so whats the largest section width I can put under the car and still drive it on the street. I've heard a 30x10.50 will go under it but not the street as they will rub on corners. Will that 28x10.50 ET Drag go under without any trouble. I'm not interested in cutting any part of the quarter for the simple fact it's a real SS car and all, and I just don't want to cut rust free original quarters.
Another thing I'm looking at is if I run the 10" wide wheel vs. the 8" wide wheel will that make more rubber contact the ground? I'm kind of looking into the new ET Street Radial for the street but want to get some feedback first.
Thanks for all your help! Sorry I'm kind of new to this, but want to try to get it figured out, I've been broke all winter, however I'm getting ready to get some college graduation gift money!!!

A real Drag slick with a diameter of 28.5 inches and 10" wide is about all the Chevelles can fit without fender modification. I too would not cut a factory SS. The 29.5" and 30" tall tires will rub somewhere depending on section width (10.5" x 28" max). The E.T. streets are only marginal on a good running big motor but are legal to drive on the street.

The ET streets are sized by section width(basically from bulge to bulge), while the ET drags are sized by tread width(contact patch).
Example:
ET street 28x10.5
section - 10.4
tread - 9
ET drag 28x10.5
section - 11.7
tread - 10
hope that helps...
