Pheadrus Sep 25th, 08, 2:31 AM Hey Guys
It's in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. It was in the classifieds but I didn't call because I was working a deal for a LS6. I don't know much but I'll try and get info and take pics to post for you guys. All I now is that it's dark green black top, Small block /auto I'm pretty sure. I have to find the ad and then I'll post phone number etc. I know where the car is so I'll try and get pics tomorrow. It looks solid but also fresh paint I think. Ad said needs resto finished I believe.
Steve.

Pheadrus Oct 1st, 08, 1:02 AM Hey guys
I went by the house today but no one was home. The car is still there although the ad hasn't been resubmitted in the paper. I'll try and stop Wed and get pics and phone number and post them probably late Wed night (12-1 am). The top looks great and the dark green paint is a nice combo. It has chrome steel rims. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have more info.
Chao, Steve.
Pheadrus Oct 6th, 08, 1:30 AM Hi guys
Heres the update. The car is put away for the winter but I spoke with the sellers wife. She said she'd give him my number but I still haven't heard from him.
Thanks, Steve.
z15cam Oct 6th, 08, 9:11 PM This is what a 67 Beaumont Convertible looks like:

My All time favorite Beaumont is the 64 2dr Hard top like this pic:

I happen to know were there is a 63 Tempest 4dr Sedan with excellent sheet metal but it was apparently stripped for paint a number of years ago and left to the elements and is coated in surface rust - what a shame.
Newfrase Nov 3rd, 08, 2:36 PM Hello Steve, did you ever find out about the Beaumont? I'm interested in it. Ottawa, Canada here. newfrase@yahoo.com if you can pass my email to them or their number to me. thanks

Pheadrus Nov 5th, 08, 2:04 AM Hi Guys
Sorry he hasn't called me back. I guess it's either sold or put away for the winter. I'll keep watching and if it becomes available I will post the info for everyone here. The green car I originally described turned out to be another car so I can't even say what the condition is. The owner of that car is the one who gave my number to the owner of the $4500 car. The green car is a decent resto but I couldn't see alot. I can talk to that guy again and try and get the real owners phone number so I can call him directly. If anyone is SERIOUS(as in has $$$$) about getting a 67 beau vert I will ask the owner of the green one if it's for sale. But I know he recently got it on the road so he's probably not eager to sell. I'll ask to take a few pics if it's not stored yet. By the way there seems to have been some cool beaumonts here in Thunder Bay. Without looking I found the two 67 verts, I could have bought a 68 or 69 beaumont convertible(307/auto/citris green/black interior) for $4000 a couple of years ago but it was very rough and needed almost every panel. Someone did buy it and I heard it went up for sale again. Lastly, and probably the coolest/saddest beaumont story I have for you guys is RARE. SUPER RARE actually. About 10 years ago I saw a 64 or 65 Beaumont SD396 in a backwoods wrecking yard. The motor and 4spd were gone but the rearend was there. It appeared to be the original color which seemed if I remember correctly was a faded red possibly dark red like maroon. The body was roughish and I thought finding body parts would be impossible. I had three 71-73 Mustangs at the time so they were my obsession and you could still get Chevelle's without a second mortage. I think it was $1500 or $2500. If I knew a little more and had a little more $$$ back then I would have saved it just for the history. What a cool car that would have been. I don't know what happened to it but I still know the owner of the wrecking yard so I'll try and ask him. I may still know where a 64-65 4 door Beaumont is if anyone is interested. I'll post any new info I can.
Steve.

Hi Steve
Do you have any more information about this car or do you think it is still there? It sounds interesting.
Thanks, Brad
jfkheat Nov 5th, 08, 7:33 PM No such animal as a 64 or 65 SD396. 66 was the first year for the 396 in a Beaumont.

SD 396 Nov 5th, 08, 8:09 PM I would still like some information about this car. Even if they don't exist I have some questions.
Pheadrus Nov 6th, 08, 4:16 AM Hi guys
All I can say is I saw the car. Back then it wasn't worth much and was for sale for only 1500 or 2500 missing the motor and tranny. I think the interior was black but I'm not sure. It sat there for one or two years that I remember. That was in approximately 98' and from the condition of the car it appeared it had been pulled from a field untouched for 15-20 years. Which means someone faked a 64'-65' SD396 complete with 4spd hole in floor(original sheet metal hump), 12 bolt(still in car which would be rare to find that fit a 64-65 Chevelle no?) and then abandoned it by about 73'-78'. It was definitely a 64' or 65'. It had SD396 emblems on the car or in the interior I can't remember. I remember reading an article on Z16 cars at the time and knowing the car was unique being an obvious Northern cousin to the US Z16 cars. But it was rough and I knew Beaumont parts were impossible to find where I lived back then. Ebay and the internet were just starting to connect people with rare parts and cars from all over North America. Look even now how guys are just finding out about these cars here in this forum. I figured the car was to rough to bring back. For perspective, at the time the yard also had a 71-73 454/4spd Vette with frame and birdcage rot, minor front clip damage, numbers matching and needing a full resto. No one wanted it and it was parted out. Today the car would bring at least 7-8 g's on Ebay as it sat then. With how rare any SD396 is, even back then, I find it doubtful someone would find original emblems and a complete drivetrain do the swap and then abandoned it a few years later. Thunder Bay back then was a small city with a 70-80,000 population so SD396 cars were rare here(most people bought Chevelle's for performance) and therefore parts cars would be scarce to non-existant. Even if it wasn't a SD396 it did have a factory 4spd opening and 12 bolt. There couldn't have been too many 64-65 Beaumont's running around with 4spds and 12 bolts? If there were what model were they James? Why go to the trouble of faking an obscure car like that right when muscle cars were worth peanuts due to the oil crisis at the time. You would think the guy would build a 64-65 Chevelle which would have been easier to get parts for even back then. James how do you know there weren't any? Factory docs? Maybe it was faked but it seems really weird. I'm going to call the wrecking yard owner and ask him about what it was and were it went. Now you guys have me really curious about the car. I wish I had $1500 back then or some pics!!
Steve.
jfkheat Nov 6th, 08, 11:21 AM The 396s didn't come out until 1965. It's a known fact in the Beaumont circles that there were no 1965 396 Beaumonts. All Beaumonts and other Canadian built GM cars can be documented by GM of Canada. There were only 201 396 Chevelles built in 1965. Brad, please correct me if I'm wrong here but I don't think there was ever an SD396 emblem on a Beaumont. Sounds like it was an interesting car just not a real SD396.

I can't say about an emblem but I remember a white decal that ran from the back of the front fender to the front of the back wheel well. Right at the back of the front fender in the decal it said SD 396. I think that was on a 69.
Edit. Here is a picture

jfkheat should get a chuckle out of the picture you posted. It's his 1968 SD-396.

Some time when we're together we'll sit down and discuss this over beers. Probably next July.

Thats cool. I just googled SD 396 images and that was one of the first that came up!
Pheadrus Nov 7th, 08, 4:11 AM Hey guys
Maybe it had a factory 4spd and 12 bolt and someone added SD396 emblems. But you said no emblems were made for any SD396 so I'm questioning my memory on whether it had emblems or not. Maybe it was stripes on the rockers that said SD396. In that case they could have just been painted on after. Honestly not sure. But it did have the 4spd tranny hump and 12 bolt rearend. What model Beaumont would have come from the factory with that combo? Whatever it was, it was rare and fast! Is there a chance it was a special order executive car, test car, or pilot car? You know the off the books cars that were never built for the public? I'm waiting to hear back from the wrecking yard owner for any info he has on the car.
Steve.
