: Can stainless exhaust be re-bent?

I have an 85 Z28 parts car that has 2-1/2" stainless exhaust with stainless Supertrap mufflers that I'm hoping I can make work on our wagon project, but, its kinda weird. Both head pipes turn and go down the pass side of the car, then, exist the rear at opposite sides.

Can it be re-bent to run from headers straight back to exit behind the rear tires? I'd hate not to be able to use it.

as long as its not been polished you can heat and re bend most muffler shops will do it if its mandrel then you might have to cut and buy a patch tube and re weld together ..

very doubtful. i know of very few shops that have mandrel benders and that is the only way to bend stainless well. most stainless kinks up on a normal pipe bender when its new. the older the shelf life the worst it gets. once you run it a while the heating and cooling makes the pipe more brittle. we bend very little stainless,we try to talk people out of it it looks like hell. but out of a mandrel bender it looks great.

Cut, rotate and reweld is probably your best bet, imho....

Probably have to do it in several spots to get everything located just so???

ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL of the above is excellent and accurate info. In short, No, you cannot rebend stainless. The longer it sets on a shelf increases its temper, AND, once it has been heated by exhaust, forget it!
If you cut/re-weld the pipe, you are going to end up with a crappy looking system. Find a GOOD muffler shop and have them custom fabricate a complete aluminized system. The pieces can be welded only at the joints if you like, or, you can have them fabricate it so that all the joints are perfect and use clamps. All my ex systems are aluminized and then I use stainless clamps which I polished on my bench buffer. Makes a nice looking system and the aluminized pipe is extremely long lasting.
