I got a 402. I put a holley 870 street avenger on it. the combo includes:
headers
performer rpm
215 heads 2.19/188 with mild porting on exhost side
approximately 10.5:1 compression
Lunati 225/235 114 sep 112 int/cl
Pertronix flamethrower hei
4.11 posi
muncie 4spd.

Is this too much carb? Should i have gotten the 770? I am trying to get the carb jetted right because the plugs were fouling. I am assuming too much fuel is the problem. Any help as far as changes i should make with my carb would appreciated...

750-770 would probably have been a better choice for throttle response and mileage. You're running more carb than I am ;)

What can i do to my 870 to improve it? Or should i sell it and get a different carb?

I've never messed with the avenger series carbs,I don't know if you can jet it down,change power valves and make it tolerable or not. My son went from a 750DP on his 355 to a 650DP with a whole lot better throttle repsonse and slightly better e.t. Do you have a friend that needs more carb or has a smaller carb that you can try?

i don't...at least nobody close. I do have jets, so i am jetting it down, but i dont' have good throtle response and i think the size is to blame. i was looking at the 770 street avenger and the barry grant speed demon 750cfm. i hate to lose money by having to get a different carb, but i do want to do the best i can with what i got.

how do you like the speed demon carb? In comparison to the street avenger series which carb is better, the street avenger or speed demon? :D Who has an opinion?

I have the speed demon 850 DP carb with the annular downlegs and I have had the holley advenger before and i like to demon better. Very noticable power difference probbly becasue the holley was a vacume secondary...
