: Im about to loose it

I went out and installed the rear end today and everything went fine. I was measuring for my new Drive shaft and one of the measurements is how far the spline sticks out of the rear of the trans. I took out the yoke expecting trans oil to run out but none did. So I checked the fluid level and it was full (I know you check it hot car running but I wanted to make sure there was fluid in there) I was jacking up the trans in the rear to unbolt it from the trans mount too see if I lowered it that fluid would come out and that's when I looked at the front of the trans were it bolts up to the engine...

THE TRANS IS CRACKED AND IM ABOUT TO FREAKING LOOSE MY MIND.I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH THE CAR FROM DAY ONE AND IM ABOUT TO JUST GIVE UP ON IT. I REALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IM GOING TO DO.....

Time to walk away for a bit of a breather. You've been going real hard on that thing for awhile.

Best of luck to you.

Just take deep breaths you'll get through it. The same thing happened to my buddy and the case cracked. the tranny also was shoved into the converter and the converter was never the same. It's winter now so maybe just take the tranny out, well you kinda have too now. go through it.

It will all turn out alright. If you ever need any help just let us know.

That sucks hard Kevin.:(

I'm really sorry to see that the damage from the driveshaft was that extensive.

Could this be a possible good donor case?

I don't know much about transmissions but maybe it wouldn't be all that much to swap your internals over?

Good luck Kevin. If I can help let me know.

Thanks Greg. Brian's buddy that he keeps his car at has a extra 400 core that he may sell. I will have to see. As for swaping parts Im not sure how that works but also not sure if any internal damage was done or not.

I still think there is something goofy in your crossmember, no way you should have had to shim the trans up never heard of that

That sucks, take a rest and then tackle that trans.
Kinda reminds me of stuff I had to do on mt 69.
Just look at my signature:D

So in short terms: your doing it right because your having to do it twice and with courage:D

When I bring the Tremec over to Mikes I will bring the crossmember with me to compare to the one Mike had it mounted on..

I don't know about yours but with mine, I had to dimple the crossmember to get the TKO to fit, heated it up and beat it with a BFH. It was part of the installation instructions. If there was something strange about the crossmember, that may have been it.

Sorry about the trans, I know you were kicking ass on it. Time to take your kid fishing for a week..............................

Don't recall, do you have Solid motor mounts? They are unforgiving and stuff like this happens.

Cross member didnt need to be dimpled. Was it so the exhaust would fit? Or was it to raise the tranny? My motor mounts are poly along with the trans mount.

It was the massive driveline fiasco that caused it. There had to be a narly bind when the driveline wedged up against the floor pan on several occasions.

Jim Alex, the guy in Everett that does, Roger's/Jims/ and My trannys, can swap cases. I'll get you the number if you want it.

It was so one of the bosses on the trany would fit. Everything else fit just fine.

Im sure it has nothing to do with my cross member...
Thanks to Brian I have a turbo 400 case to swap my parts into. Im going to get the # from Darryl for the guy he uses to build trannys to do the swapping of parts. Hopefully it doesn't cost too much as I still need to buy a new Drive shaft and exhaust also.It would be nice to have it ready for the Halloween bash at the end of Oct. Oh well we will see.

I'm still saying something in the rear U-Joint let go, and started the CHAOS. Has to be, but I'd lose the poly trans mount.

I would take Paul up on the offer to get the stock 66 member to verify that Your's hasn't been tweaked to fit the TKO.

Swapping out the guts shouldn't be too bad.

Sorry to hear that Man, by the way I put the 280.00 labor bill in the mail Today.:D

Im going to take my crossmember with me to Mikes when I drop off the Tremec to compare it to his 66 crossmember. The poly trans mount will be gone as I have a stock rubber one on the shelf.

As far as the 280 as soon as I get the bill I will put a check in the mail:D

I have heard not to run poly engine mounts and a rubber bushing in the trans. Is Poly the cause here? How much more energy could the rubber really have taken? I doubt a marshmellow mount could have protected your car from that exploding driveshaft.... ;) With a new driveshaft I would still opt to leave the poly in.

I doubt very much that the mounts had anything to do with this.:noway:

I think its only pertains to solid motor mounts and solid trans or poly trans. Seems to be too stiff for the trans housing to take.

Youll be fine. its when you have the motor being capable of moving(IE rubber or poly mounts) and the transmission cant move(solid mount). It will crack the bell housing because the transmission cant rotate with the motor.

Kevin,

When are you going to Mr Parker's place?
I'd like to meet you there if going by ferry. If driving down I-5, you stop here or I meet you THIS side of the bridge. I want mufflers, you seem to be needing a lotta cash lately!
Weekday evening, over the weekend?
You have my number, give me a shout TUES or send me a PM with some options here.

Thanks. Good to know, as I'm getting a fair bit of rotation from the driver's front to the passenger rear when launching. Time to straighten things up.

Guess I shouldn't have cheeseboxed the frame so much to make it lighter.

Not. :D

John do you have full exhaust out the back? I have a Dick Miller weld in anti roll bar that I did not use because of the complexity of insallation around the exhaust. If you are needing one. Or anyone else.

My exhaust exits just in front of the rear axle with turndowns.

Could you please pm the details on the anti roll bar ? If you've seen my videos, it's pretty apparent the body roll could be tamed down a bit...maybe even help my 60's.

Thanks for the idea Mike.

John I would recommend that instead of an air bag, they look cool too. But do need to be welded in.

Mine is more epxensive but can be bolted in which was easy to install.

Darryl gave my the # to his trans guy and I called him today to discuss the situation. Im getting a good core from Brians friend and will be taking my broken tranny and the good core to Jim (the trans guy) for him to swap the parts from one case to the next also inspecting parts to make sure nothing is broken or worn, I guess he will have to replace a couple of seals along with the filter and he quoted me a price of 125.00 which I think is really great. So 100 bucks for the core 125 for the swap then 500 for a bullet proof drive line so 725 in damage + the original 450 for Mikes trans and driveline + another 950 for flexplate, torque converter, shifter, bolts, trans cooler, lines and fittings, driveline ujoints and balance for a total of 2125 dollor trans swap:sad: Looks like with the damage its costing me 625 out of my pocket:( Im picking up the trans on Friday the 3rd and will be taking it to Jim's on Saturday. It looks like I should have it back together pretty quick.
