might try airstream. They use an aluminum wheel on many of their trailers. I know that the larger ones are well over 7000 gvw.
I don't know if these are heavy enough or not http://www.trailertiresandwheels.com/site/1284278/product/AW1607

I am guessing you will never know with stock wheels. Aftermarket alloys usually have a load capacity on them. I put Western (remember those guys) Outlaw II's on my MasterCraft boat trailer, 4 of them do just fine with 4000 GVW.

But it's more the tires than the wheels... Goodyear makes a trailer tire called the "Marathon" that has also worked well for me.

Bill,
I used Cragar SS wheels on my open trailer with no problems....obviously less weight than an enclosed.
As long as the wheel was DOT rated for 2K lbs each or so, I don't think there would be an issue.
Funny...just this morning I was looking at my Haulmark and thinking about a wheel change. :)

Busy weekend for us....
Mike Newby and his dad will be there all weekend...camping out in dad's motor home.
Dana, my son, and myself will be there Friday only. We all have garage passes.
FYI...there's an all Chevy show at Summit Racing, I-75 exit 218, on Sat of that weekend (25th)...we'll be there, weather permitting.
Then on Sunday, the 26th. it's off to the Moonshine Festival at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame museum in Dawsonville.

My 20ft enclosed has aluminum modular wheels from Les Schwab (PNW tire chain) installed by the previous owner. Those guys are so paranoid about law suits over what they sell that they wouldn't let me run them. My trailer has been used to haul cars all over the USA by the previous owner behind his RV. Never had an issue. Pretty much any aftermarket whel bought at a reputable tire store can be checked for load rating. if that doesn't satisfy you check with Companies, like Haulmark, Interstate, etc and see where they get their aluminum wheels. A friend of mine ran 15X8 Rallys on his for years. Then he switched over to a set of 15X7 US aluminum slots. Been running them for more than 2 years now.:)

Bill,
As an example, according to the Cragar website, all the SS wheels have a load rating of 1580 lbs each.
http://www.cragarwheel.com/popupseries/popup_08_61.html
I would just lookup the website of the specific wheel mfg you're considering using. All mfg should list a spec sheet with the load ratings in their catalog.

Thanks Bill I never got time to look up the ratings .....so if we use the Cragar info 4 automotive wheels would be good for 6300 and my trailer 7000 gvw so I would not have a concern using these wheels I have very good quality 8 ply trailer tires ..............if I had a 10k axle / gvw like alot of 24 and up trailer do I might have a concern but like PapaJohn says I see trailers with auto wheels and appears no problems ....pretty sure factory and name brand aftermarket wheels have some built in overcapacity in the ratings ............. I have the Cragar SS wheels from my 66 that were bot new in about 69 the chrome is peeling but thinking of having them powder coated in a "color" Aztec Bronze " ???? for the trailer just for kicks

PS I dont care for e some of the alum wheels the trailer guys offer .........way too pricey for what they are and dont need to see them on every travel trailer on the hwy.

If you had a trailer with 10k axles car wheels would not fit anyways. The 10k axles are usually 6 lug which you would have to run a truck wheel. I suspect they would be the Chev/Toyota 6 lug patern. From what I see on enclosed trailers:
5 lug = 7k
6 lug = 10k
8 lug = 12k

I wouldn't see why not.
Did you check the spare your buddy loaned you to get how first ?
The average car weighs ??? 3000 lbs. then you throw in passengers and luggage ?
I know my truck weighs about 5500 and I've had 3600 lb in the bed (well over 7000 lb GVW).

Now... I wouldn't use light drag wheels like Welds either.

Good point I forgot the 10k are 6 lug ..........so generally speaking I shoud have no problem with auto wheels at 7000 gvw

Thanks guys

A friend of mine had a flat bed open car trailer with aluminum wheels from a 79 corvette on it. I used it to haul cross country twice, once hauling a chevy van loaded down with tools. The overload caused me to blow a tire but the wheels were good to go for many trouble free years.
