I must be, can anyone tell me who sells a good quiet performance muffler. I have delta 40 flows and would like to go to something real quiet. Thanks.

You're not getting old, just more refined! Summit turbo mufflers are a cheap alternative to many others on the market that will do the job. I replaced the flowmaster 40 series mufflers with these and it lowered the volume quite a bit.

An X pipe helps alot and is a performance improvement at the same time. If you don`t have one you might want to consider it.
The DynoMax Ultra Flows are nice

Dynomax Hemi Turbos (20" case). Almost as quiet as the OEM. but flow is considerably higher.

I started a thread in the Tech 2004 section about wanting a quiet exhaust. The muffler that came up most was the Dynomax Hemi Turbo with a 20" case. Although I don't have first hand experience with them I do know, if enough people tell you the same thing, pay attention. I know I'm convinced.

If you have the room the single exhaust 440 full size Chry. 2 1/2 in and out and dead quiet.

One thing to consider....how much HP are you willing to give up?
A rule of thumb once stated by David Vizzard, is that you want 2.2cfm of flow per hp. The problem is....what muffler manufactureres will tell you that?
I use the Dynomax Hemi Super Turbo muff on my 4cyl Quad 4 Olds....don't laugh guys, it runs mid 14's.
They flow pretty well and are nice and quiet....for about 3 months when the "lifetime" packing begins to fall out. Of course with a few phone calls and some whining to Jegs, they send me a new one.
On a V8....an X-Pipe really tames the sound down. We just put an X on brothers Camaro with the Magnaflow XL muffs and the thing is real quiet. I wish my Quad 4 was so quiet.....
BTW....I'm 49, and would LOVE it if someone would make nice quiet muffs that flow real well. Personally, I just don't think there is a big enough market for that.
I remember when I put my first (and last) set of Flowmasters on my Chevelle......they were sold as extra quiet.
I decided that they were the LOUD models and the shorter more powerful ones were the REAL F**KING LOUD models.

I must be getting old also.....I had to put 4" Dynomax Bullets on my Nova so I could tell if it was running! :D

Another option may be to use the largest case Magnaflow Mufflers you can get. They make a 4x9 and I think a 5x10 oval up to 24" long case that will work to absorb a lot of sound. I am hoping my Dynomax Turbos hold up, if not I may look into the Magnaflow. But for quiet and satisfactory performance, can't beat the Dynomax.

I use the long case Walker Super Hemi Turbo's and have been quite satisfied with sound and noise level. They don't have the drone inside the car like SuperFlops. smile.gif

On Dynomax's web site they list the flow numbers for their mufflers. AFAIK, they are the only company that does this. If you need 2.2 cfm/hp, you can find muffs there that have that. It's pretty easy to find mufflers for any hp level.

Magnaflow 12578s. But man, anything 3" ( and 3.5" off the headpipes) is going to be somewhat loud.
