I see by a parts book there are two different # for the 64-66 & the 67 shift handles for muncie transmission with bucket seats and console (3853137 &3917764 respectively). And a third # 3903079 for a 67 handle W/buckets and without a console. What are the differences between these shifter handles? Anyone have photo of any of these? Thanks.

67 Bucket seat shifter handle has a distinct elbow at the bottom.. almost 45 dg. I have pictures but not with me. a coomon blunder in restoration of 66 SS to have a 67 shifter in it.

66 shifter handle is basically straight.. but has a slight wave/bend to it.

67 Bench Seat shifter.. well.. again, hard to describe, and yes.. photo would be easier.. Idon't have access to my photo library right now, but I am sure dale or someone lese can post these.

I had a '66 4 speed, bucket seat and console Beaumont and had to use a small pillow behind my back so that I could hit third gear without reaching. I was given a '67 handle which had a deeper bend and it worked fine. GM probably had complaints and corrected the problem for 1967.

Thanks guys. A guy had a shifter assembly that he said was a correct 66 set-up. But the handle looked like the 67 Mike is describing. It also didnot have the correct 2 hole shift lever for 1&2 gear and I think it had the 64-65 reverse lever, which is different from the 66 reverse lever, which is also different from the 67-68 reverse lever. Anyone have photo's or can describe the differences between the 64-65 reverse lever and the 66 reverse lever. I think on the 66 reverse lever the hole for the back-up light switch is adjacent to the hole for the shifter rod whereas on the 64-65 reverse lever the hole for the light switch is adjacent to the rectangular slot for the shift lever on the transmission. I have photo's; but don't know which is which. And the 67 revese lever is like the 66 except it is flat instead of offset a little. Thanks.

Still another question on the 66 bucket seat handle. I have seen a couple of handles for sale that indicate that the 64-66 chevelle with buckets or the 64 Impala handle are the same. But besides the small bend at the bottom, is there also a slight bend to the passenger side. Or is this a 64 only handle or neither? Thanks.

Jim, I thought we covered all this :D

The 64 reverse lever is different than the 65-67, just your year grouping is off. Here is a pic. 64 on left 65-67 on right. On real 64 levers there is a stamped outline X. For those playing at home, the 64 Impala and 442 used the same shifter as the 64 Chevelle.

The flatter and fatter lever you refer to is the Camaro / Nova '68 lever. The Chevelle shifter by 68 is quite different.

All the same, even my parts book says so. Some guy wrote a guide on eBay that tells the sellers so. These handles have two slight bends.

Thanks Tom. Yes we had covered the reverse lever and the rods. I had thought that the shifter handle for the 66 chevelle with buckets only had the one slight bend. As the 67 had only one bend with a slightly larger angle than the 66.

But now if I am reading you correctly, the 66 chevelle handle has 2 bends, one slight bend near the base and one further up that bends to the passenger side?
