: MD guy needs some help, engine won't fire
first64 Sep 19th, 08, 7:48 AM Guys, I'm running out of ideas and can't seem to get my car to fire up. Here is a thread I started over in Electrical http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=240954
I don't ever recall having this much trouble getting an engine to fire up, but it's sure is testing me now.
Anyhow I was wondering if anyone had some spare time and might be able to help me get it going. I know it's asking a lot, I'm just get frustrated and need some help.
FIG Sep 19th, 08, 11:15 AM may want to say where in MD you are located...

Bobby
Let me see what the plans are for this weekend and maybe dad and I can come over and give you a hand. I know he is in the middle of pulling a motor out of a 86 elcamino right now. How does your schedule look for this weekend? Are you a Md Chevelle Club member?
first64 Sep 19th, 08, 5:04 PM JJ, that would be cool. I can be flexible since you have to make the trip, except Sunday morning is church. I'm not a member of MCC.
Don't know if you remember or not but I went to GP with you and your sister. I drove the maroon 79 malibu 4 door.
I'm going to see if I can get it figured out tonight so you won't have to come up.
furball8994 Sep 19th, 08, 5:18 PM Bobby. I see your issues started after a head/intake swap. Are you using Hydro. lifters? Did you recheck your valve lash or preload? Also check for any vacuum leaks.
Another thing. You have been dumping fuel into the engine without spark. You may have "loaded" the engine with fuel. (similar to flooding, just in the cylinders) Disconnect the fuel line and crank it a few times to clear out the engine and try again.

Yes, I set the preload with the intake of so I could see the cup move, then set it from there. I will disconnect the fuel line and try that, thanks.
Hey Bobby
I was wondering if that was you... Just let me know whether you get it started.
LeoP Sep 19th, 08, 8:36 PM Whatsamatter, you don't want my help? I know where you live and have been off all week with skin surgery.
first64 Sep 19th, 08, 8:43 PM Leo, I'll gladly except your help. I just threw out a request for help to see if anyone had some time to help. If you got the time, that would be great. I'm going out in a minute to see if I can get it going.
LMK if and when you could come by.
first64 Sep 19th, 08, 11:50 PM guys I got it started, it doesn't want to run by itself...that might just be the carb needing a little adjustment. I didn't have much time to check things out tonight, hopefully tomorrow night I can do more checking.
For now I think I can hold off on anyone making a trip, unless Leo wants to come by since he is very close by.
Thanks for the help so far, hopefully I can get this all straightened out.
FIG Sep 20th, 08, 12:37 AM if Leo decides to stop by I may tag along... depends on whether I am watching my kids :)
and dad is still in brandywine so he's not far either (those two are always good for some laughs when they are working together)
