Having 3 starters on hand, i decided to weigh them all.
The Stock GM AC delco Full sized starter weighs 18lbs

A Tilton Super Starter weighs 10lbs

CSI #100 ministarter 11 lbs

The CSI and Tilton starters both turned over the motor much quicker and easier then the Stock GM, and the stock GM just about died trying to turn over a motor with locked out timing.

If anyone is wondering, my racing was rained out today :(

its nice and bright and sunny now, but its too late, it rained until about 10:30, but they canceled it at 8:30.

The CSI is a nice unit, its less expensive, but just as nice by comparison, however its mounting base is larger.

The tilton i had on the car was one i barrowed from a fellow racer.

How about Powermaster?

Neither Tilton nor Powermaster "make" starters; IIRC both of those are the Hitachi one. Look at all the parts: if they're all round, it's a Hitachi. The other kind of starter that some of the mini-starters are made from, is the Nippondenso. it has parts that are sort of squarish looking.

All that Tilton, Hamburger, Summit, CVR, etc. etc. etc. etc. do, is to machine the aluminum block that allows the starter motor to be bolted to whatever kind of block.

exactly, thats why i'm confident that the CSI will work just as well as the Tilton.

We use the XS Torque aluminum mini starter at work on everything practically. Works flawlessly, sounds cool too graemlins/thumbsup.gif Must way something like 5-6lbs.
