My car is an original auto trans column shift that was converted to a floorshift. My reverse lights were never reconfigured to work with the floor shift. I did a search on the subject and read a number of posts, but now I'm even more confused. The posts talked about a set of switches around the steering shaft near the firewall...not seeing it. What I do see is 3 wires coming from the back of the car underneath the carpeting and disappearing behind the fuse box. There a brown, green, and blue. According to my Hanes manual, the green goes to the reverse lights. I'm thinking I need to cut that wire and run it to a switch that connects it to battery when the shifter is in the "reverse" position. (Correct?) NPD carries a neutral safety/reverse lamp switch for floor mount, but when I called them they couldn't tell me how it works. Does it attach to the shifter or the trans? I also need to add that my linkage from the column shifter is disconnected and nowhere to be seen.

Originally your car would have had the NSS and reverse light switch (one switch) mounted to the base of the column. The switch may be missing ? But the wiring will still be there.
The NSS wiring consists of two thick purple wires (probably joined together) and the reverse light wiring is
a pink and a green wire on a flat 2 spade plug
The floor shifter switch attaches to the shifter under the console and you will need to make or buy the extension harness that runs from the column to the console.
The pink (IGN HOT) and green are connected together when the shifter is in the reverse position.
Same with the two purple wires when in park or neutral.
You don't need the linkages anymore.
Can't comment on the wiring you found. Could be for anything (power antenna for example) if not part of the stock wiring harness running inside the flat black plastic tube ?
