Anyone know if you can powder coat over chrome ? I want to do a black 14" air cleaner lid.

I am sure you can, you might want to scotch brite the surface first.

I dont think it would adhere properly. I have a home powder coating system. I have done several chrome items that I sandblast first down to bare steel, and then coat them. I think if you were to just scuff the chrome, I dont think the chrome would stand up to the heat of the oven for the powder coating curing process.

You can absolutely powedercoat over chrome. Chrome is metal(high melting point). Powder max temp 450 degrees, usually about 400. Look at Eastwoods powders. They sell high tech coatings that are designed to only go over chrome. They give an anodized look. You have to have the chrome underneath to get that clear color look. Specfically, I powdercoated a chromed air cleaner lid in Almost Chrome(it was rusted). Looks good 3 years later.
