I have original ignition on my mild built 396. the points stink I know. I was thinking a MSD pro billet HEI dist. and the 6A box. any one have any other good suggestions?

I've been running a recurved HEI distributor with an MSD 6AL for a number of years with out any problems.

While there is probably nothing wrong with an MSD distributor, an old HEI might save your a few bucks.

I've been debating with myself on whether to go with MSD or a Mallory box. It sure seems like there's been problems with the MSD  At my performance level I don't need a rev limiter, and I've had good luck with the good ole Unilite and coil.

This all you will need:

Unless you need a rev limiter, save your money. The MSD will not give you any more performance that you will see in a timeslip, which means for your street car that never sees track time its a waste of money IMHO.My car gets by just fine with an HEI..

1270, I have just installed my new ignition system. Daves unified ignition/Performance distributors. I chose the tri/power set up looks stock for my 1972 402 BB.Wow what a difference from the stock ignition, the car feels like it picked up 15-20HP. give them a call 901-396-5782 They are great to deal with good luck!

do you have any thoughts if I did not go with an HEI and stayed with the coil? Is one better than the other?
Thanks
