Hi All,

I Have a 1970 SS 396,Turbo 400,12 bolt, AC car with power windows.

It is unrestored and I’m trying to verify that it is a SS. I know the build sheet is the way to do that but I have been unable to find one. I replaced the gas tank and also pulled the seat no build sheet. When I looked under the carpet I think I found the build sheet but it was a solid mass with the carpet. While the seat was out I looked up under the back window and found a SS marked there. Does anyone know about these marks?

Thanks!http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll85/c4500matt/DSC03254.jpg

A couple quick things to look for are the tranny "kick down" switch over the accelerator pedal on TH400 big block SSs and make sure it has a 12 bolt rear end. Boxed lower control arms were standard on the coupe but not necessarily on the El Camino.

Thanks Guys for your help!

It is a TH 400 auto, 12 bolt rear end, bench seat, PDB, AC, PS, power window car. It has that tranny "kick down" switch over the accelerator pedal. Black now but original color was Cortez Silver.

Photos? You got photos!

Nice pickup, Matt. Interesting to see CA plates on a Baltimore build. It must have come in from out of state at one time. I would've thought it built at the Van Nuys plant for CA. I don't have that mark on mine. I've seen a few 70's and none had it either.

I found two different build sheets in each of the bench seats on my two 70' El Co's. But the one to my car was found on top of the gas tank, built in Van Nuys Plant.

I have a 70 SS 454 -M-22 Camino that I ordered in Feb. of 70. I see something on your camino that I would say is proof, It a real SS. E-Mail me and I will tell you what I see.
I am sure your Camino is a REAL SS Balt. Md.car.
