I dunno wasn't my thread

I guess it wasn't really mine either.

Anyway, my wife just called from the gas station we normally use where gas had gone from $3.49 yesterday to $3.79 today...and it went to $3.99 while she was waiting in line.

I called the little station near my house and they said their gas was $3.59,............. but they didn't have any.:(

The run is on.

Way over 4 bucks a gallon here now. "Ike" has caused some refineries to shut down, so the oil companies see a chance to really stick it to us. And they sure are doing it. National news just reported it is over 5 bucks a gallon in some places. Stinking thieves. [thread soon headed to SP.]

someone please explain to me ...... how the stations need to raise the price on fuel that is IN their tanks was bought & paid for before IKE ???

why is it that prices skyrocket at the first hint of problems that MAY OR MAY NOT happen ??

GREED .. pure an simple !! there is no other reason

They would say it's because they have to make enough money on the gas in their tank to buy the more expensive gas they are going to refill their tank with, (and still make a profit for expenses, employees, owner, etc..

I think that too was discussed here before. Something about the gas station is about to get ripped on the next load of fuel, so they need to rip off the customers by jacking up their current tank of fuel in order to pay for that next load. :p I really don't know. But, I'll be the first in this thread to say "it's all about Supply and Demand" l:)

Was this an alert bulletin, then it turned into an actual thread? lol

Things really haven't changed yet. In fact they said on the news that it went down 1/2 cent in the Pittsburgh area overnight last night eventhough the wholesale price increased 20 cents. Just filled up on the way home from dinner - because I needed to - $3.55/gallon - 87 octane. No lines, pulled right up to the pump.

They say the spike is coming, but should only last a week, or so, depending on how much damage is done.

Why isn't there someone governing all these jackasses that start price gouging?

Everyone needs to take notes of what stations in their areas do this type of price gouging crap and never buy from them again. I did that back on 9-11 when Caseys everywhere jumped fuel up almost $2 during the day....i havnt stepped foot in one since. They need to learn that the public wont put up with their antics.

I filled up the bike on the way home, was due for it. Prices holding steady, $4.38/gal for 92 at Shell. Wife gets home, turns on the news, then sends me back out to top off everything. I reminded her that our oil stocks are on tankers most likely coming from overseas anyway, and the barrel of oil was under $100 today, and no threats to our two refineries on island. Then i figured I'd better go do it, because inevitably, it will rise.

I flew to San Antonio last Wednesday for my son's graduation from Air Force bootcamp.
Gas was 3.52. Left on Sunday. Gas was 3.52. Governor spokesperson was on the TV and said anything increase over 10 cents was gouging and to report it.
Got a call on Thursday from N. GA that gas was over 4.00 and climbing. Got a call on Friday that people were pushing and shoving at the stations and verbally fighting over gas. My brother was there with us from Ft. Bragg and his wife called and said a station on Saturday was over 7.00 in Raleigh. Got home early yesterday am and gas was 4.29, it was 3.69 when I left, and this morning it was 4.09 at the same station.
People freaking out and making mad rushes on the stations caused the station owner to increase prices....not the oil companies. Went out at lunch and the same station was 4.05. It has been announced over and over on TV that there is no gas shortage. Ike did no significant damage to the refineries. The local owners of these stations should be handcuffed and their picture put on the nightly news.
Arabs aren't ripping us off. Our own local businessmen are.
This is not a supply and demand problem except what "we" are causing by panicing.
Don't buy it and it will come down. I know of a couple of people who took all their cars, their boat, and their motorcycle and filled them all up. The station shut the pump off for one guy I know at $350.00 and said he couldn't have any more. He called up all his friends and said to go fill up everything because there was a gas shortage.
Gripes, people, get a grip.

Was 3.66 Friday morning, local radio announced a station that had went up to 5.35 across the river, most stations went to 3.99 Friday, but now are 4.09. From what I was told is that the small independent stations that don't have a contract with a major oil company are getting screwed. The station that was charging 5.35 was said to have paid 5.32 for his fuel. The wrong thing to do in a situation like this, is to go fill up, this causes so called shortages, and gives them another excuse to raise prices.
