The track was slippery and cold but I still managed to get a few good runs in. My first run was 13.89@106MPH with a 2.06 60'. Even with 10x26" ET Drags I was fighting for traction through second gear and I had to let off to regain control. Next pass I bumped the timing up a few degrees and heated the tires up nice and toasty and ran a 12.8@107. A little more timing and another good burnout nets a 12.54@108.6MPH. Yet a couple more degrees of timing brings me best time of 12.41@108.76MPH! I ran 2 more times but had to let off mid run due to 2nd gear traction issues and didn't get any better than 12.8. My best 60' was a 1.83 which I got on my 12.4 run.
I have yet to play with the jetting, but with a properly prepped track I think low low 12's are in store for this engine smile.gif .

Congrats...I like those vortecs for a mild smallblock...60ft is everything in drag racing...you might knock another couple tenths off it....good work graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Interesting combo. Very nice performance!

Can you tell us more about that cam and how you like it's manners, etc.? Comp. Cam's Nostalgia Plus series, correct? Specs?

yes, the cam is from COMP's nostalgia line.
247/254*@.050
284/291*advertized
.504/.498"lift
112lsa

It only pulls 9-9.5" of vaccum but my brakes still work so I'm happy. It makes great power around 5000 and up since thats when usually where the tires start to break loose! I really like it. Pulls real strong up to 6500. Its got a nice lumpy, rough idle that shakes the whole car when it sits and idles around 8-900rpm smile.gif .

Rmchevelle, Im curious as to what you think is interseting about my combo. big engine, big cam and smaller heads??

</font> The E.T. and mph</font> The 3.42 gears (relatively mild)</font> The converter (What brand by the way?)</font> The Vortec heads</font> The cam, for sure. (Cams are always interesting but the 30-30 has an extensive history and I can't help but be curious as to how Comp's modern interpretations of the old tried and proven designs might perform.)</font>

Well, that answers a bunch of questions for me. I have been considering building a almost identical setup as I have pretty much all the parts. Virgin 400 smallblock, vortec heads, performer rpm, isky 247/254@.050 solid on a 108 lsa, and a 750 holley. Darn good performance you've got there.

I actually have a set of 4.10 gears to put in if I want, but with the traction issues Im having already its going to be a while before they make it into the car.

Travis, that cam with the narrower LSA should sound about perfect I think. I would have went with a narrower lobe separation but I needed something with under or near .500" lift and the 30-30 solid fit the bill nicely.

Im not sure what brand the converter is. Its a 12" that is suppose to stall around 3000 but on my engine stalls around 3600-3700. It was cheap and works so Im happy smile.gif .

I am sorry, but I gotta real problem with calling CC's Nostalgia + 30-30 cam just that b/c look at the spec's on both and it is nowhere near a real GM 30-30 cam!!!

pdq67

30-30 cam's spec's:
346 advertised, (but really more like a 314)/254, 114/112, .485" gross lift, lash anywhere from .026" to .030"..

VS,

Nostalgia + 30-30 cam's spec's:
284/247/291/254, 112/?, .504"/.498" gross lift with .015" lash..

See what I mean???
