I am knew to this site. And after 7 long...long years of "priorities first" I have finally ...well almost finished a 69 Chevelle SS basket case that I purchased years ago in the boot hills of KY. Although several attempts were made before me to bring it back...or maybe keep it going I must say they had failed miserably...it was truly a butched car. I took it completely apart and finally got it close (road worthy anyway) to where I want it. Every last nut and bolt cleaned or replaced and I have tried to go with the best quality...or at least what I could and can still afford. Although..93 octane and jet fuel at every fill up may get expensive these days but thatnkfully it's not the daily driver. Still needs final paint and the rest of the interior put in it but it's at least within sight now. I went with a 454, professionally built that dynoed at 550hp on the stand. Then with a TKO500 5 speed and 308 posi. It's a great combo that I would reccommend to anyone if you want to cruise at 70 MPH and 2k on the tach. My only regret maybe is the solid lifter as it's a little noisey and I have already had to re-adj so I may revert back to the hyd and settle for a little less hp...not sure I'll notice it though. Anyway...I'll be around to ask questions I am sure. It has been a long time since my first 69 Chevelle...high school days and many moons ago but after 20 years of Air Force and now on to another career in the defense business I never...ever lost the crave for a street thumper. It's wonderful to be back. In fact I already have a question...I was remembering the chirping of rear tires when I used to crack second...this thing goes sideways. Maybe some ladder bars or something huh? More tire perhaps? Been a while and I feel as though I have missed some things. Once I figure this site out I would like to share some photos so I will work on this. Thanks guys and look forward to learning...re-learning hands on.

Welcome Lou!

Ladder bars are OLD technology that never worked right. If you getting wheel hop, Try boxed or tubular control arms. If its just wheel spin, Try better tires or a lighter foot!!!! LOL

Hello and welcome Lou.

You could put an air bag in the rear springs. It made my 70 SS go straight.
More air in the right side is needed.

Thanks for your military service.

Hi again. Thanks for the welcome fellas and the advice on my sideways issue. Did go with the boxed lower control arms and am waiting on some lift bars as well. I seem to have developed some pretty nasty hop back there. Anyway, thanks again and see you gents around the site.

Lou,

The lift bars should help immensely.
Also get rid of the 'may-pops' you had while rolling it around the garage and get some good rubber on it.

Thanks for your service!
