Hi
I know with a stock converter in a 400 trans should take about 12qts.
How much with a 10" stahl converter? Is there a rule of thumb 1 qt per inch or ?

Not that I know of. I don't think the smaller converter would hold much less, maybe 1 quart less. I think if you start checking it around 9 quarts and run it through all of the gears you should be safe.

The problem I am having is blowing trans oil out of the overflow at 5500-6000 rpm.
I don't want to upset the track personnel and fellow racers due to downtime to clean up my mess.

Do you have an accurate dipstick in it?

That is why I only fill mine to the add a pint line when it's hot. Basically on a deep pan trans if it shows on the stick, leave it.

Do as jakeshoe suggests and scribe a line on your dipstick that is flush with the pan rail. That will be your full mark. The indicator marks on your dipstick can be inaccurate. Mine was 5/16 too high, and this was from a brand new GM dipstick/tube.

Once I got it marked, I just started putting in fluid until it showed full. Started the car, warmed it up, and slowly ran the shifter through all of the positions a few times... checked he fluid, and continued to do this until it was full. Then I drove it a few miles and checked it again... all was good.
