Found out my rear drums are bad. I thought I saw a post about aluminium brake drums. Search didn't find it. Does anyone know if and where they are available? Always looking to shave a few ##'s.
Thanks

I got a set at a local speedshop. Probably the only way to find them now is ebay, or a swapmeet. Im not even using them since i switched to rear discs, but i cant part with them for fear that i may not find another pair. Good luck finding some smile.gif

Can't you buy them at AutoZone or Advanced Auto? Weren't they standard equipment on later model Monte Carlo's? Don't know for sure but that is what I heard. Check'em out.

They were standard, but now OEM replacements are cast iron.

I think you will find that the aluminum drums will be superceded with cast iron jobs.

I had a friend at Chevrolet do some checking and that is what he came up with.

I had the area rep for Raybestos tell me the same answer to the same question. :(

Try junk yards, probably the only choice. Seems a lot of show car guys polish them up and probably only use them while going on and off the trailer. I found the weight saving to be minimal at only about 2.5# each.

i believe the post you are referring to was mine.its possible i broke in on another post and asked the question.i saw a short mention in a car magazine about swapping to aluminum drums and asked the same thing.if i remember correctly the article said they came on late 60's or early 70's model chevy (or chevelle) wagons as oem parts.i can't remember which car magazine but it was one of the "big 5" hot rodder mags.wish i could be of more help. :(

Actually, it is the late 70's and early 80's mid-size cars (Monte, Regal, ect.).
