Hi, what kind of cam do you recommend for my car.

65 283 not over bored or anything
9.25 CR
Stock Heads
570 CFM Holley
Performer Intake
Powerglide w/3.08s

I was thinking a wide power range becusae the powerglide will take the RPMS up quicker, so something with a wider powerband would work better then one with, say 1200-3800. This is just for some mild street driving, but It needs a little more kick. Thanks smile.gif

Adman,

The biggest cam I have put in a similar 283 is a 266H10 single pattern--- 211° at .050, .441" valve lift, and 110 LSA. It was a VERY peppy performer, and just what my neighbor wanted, and in a black 57 Chevy, to boot!
I have a better choice, the 254/262H10, or H12. This cam is 199/207 at .050, .401/.432 valve lift, and either 110 or 112 LSA. In 305 IROC-Zs it has won the SCCA Stock class for 2 years, and would boost BHP from 35(stock 305 IROC-Z) to 55 (Bluepriinted). It also gives very good mileage when driven normally. It would have more power everywhere vrs the Chevy stock cam. In a 283 it would work from idle to 5400 with good power, peak power about 4800, maybe 5000.
The 112 idles better and has more vacuum, the 110 runs faster at the track.
