427L88 May 2nd, 09, 8:21 AM I dont think Russ is online much. He's gonna wet hisself when he sees his wagon on the art. Steve's 69 was a fresh build , and done right. My last "President's Choice".
Speaking of which, lobby is open this year! We might ask Mr. Wertheim to put his "over the top" Beaumont in there.
steve_sutherland May 2nd, 09, 11:06 AM cant wait  hoping i'll have my el camino back together in time
Bow_Tied May 2nd, 09, 7:04 PM Sweet long roof on the artwork!
Steve, get your Elky back together, that's an order! :D
steve_sutherland May 2nd, 09, 7:54 PM Sweet long roof on the artwork!
Steve, get your Elky back together, that's an order! :D
;) well now that i'm orderred to do it i guess i really got to get it done!
I'll see what i can do, and well if its done, it'll be down looking pretty different than the silver basic elky i drove down with last year:hurray:
DUKE 69 May 2nd, 09, 9:42 PM As you can see, the artwork is outstanding. However, to see a big parking lot full of some of the finest Chevelles and Beaumonts anywhere...well that puts the artwork waaaayyyyy back in second place. So.......... Steve, get that Elky done, pronto. Dan Orgill...night and day now to get that dropdead gorgeous '69 done. Anyone else in the northeastern US or Canada...get yourselves in gear and get to Grand Island in July for the 7th annual Northern Chevelle Gathering. Disappointed you WILL NOT BE!! Get at it now because July 10-12 will be here before you know it.

 i'm working on it, school, then work after school is taking up some time, my girlfriend isnt too happy about where my priorities lie apparently ha ha (the el camino come first, i've had it longer ;):D)
427L88 May 4th, 09, 8:22 PM Ah, stick to your "guns" Steve, as GFs try and test your "loyalty" all the time. The correct answer is to "fail" those tests and stick to "mission priorities".
steve_sutherland May 4th, 09, 9:41 PM ha ha good advice Gene, if I only have time to pass one, choose the right one to fail :D lmao, got another few hours of work in today,
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk268/elcamino-dude/elcaminorestorationpics014.jpg
all thats left is to finish welding in new floors, get fender back on, build the hood, get it to the painter and have it painted, put the interior in, and do a REALLY big burnout- then its time for the NCG! :) it almost seems eays at this point ;)
Theres no doubt in my mind its goign to be another great show, hope to see you all there
Bow_Tied May 4th, 09, 9:57 PM Whoa! You forgot to add 'install headlight' to that list! Do not delay, get to it!
:D
Maybe we will convoy there, what day are you going? I am figuring on going Friday morning. With any luck I'll have some gears installed that let me rev at 90km/hr ;)
steve_sutherland May 4th, 09, 10:43 PM oh yeah the headlight is the big job, thats whats been holding me back ;) once i figure that out i'm good to go!
Convoying there sounds good to me! Like i said i'm going to try and have it all back together, if i do I'm good to go down any day. Friday morning works for me

steve_sutherland Jun 27th, 09, 10:35 PM I'm going down to the painters tomorrow and see where the car is at, wish me luck:yes: so is anyone looking for some company and a bit of cash for gas money on their trip down.. just in case?
DUKE 69 Jun 30th, 09, 9:52 PM OK, gang, this is the prez talking to ya.....get it in gear and get ready for the really big "shew". Time is flying by and it will be July 10 before you know it. The CanAm'ers are ready for ya. The registration is creeping upwards but not to the level I would like to see. Come on, give it a whirl....beautiful venue, fantastic cars and scenery, great wings and "beverages", the best cruise ever...wht more could you ask for (go ahead, ask anyway...we probably can't help you LOL!). This is the next big deal on the summer Chevelle calendar. See you soon!

Yes, the Sat. cruise is just around the perimeter of the island...some incredible views of the river and some unbelieveable houses overlooking the river as well.
Steve,
Initiate plan C immediately...it may take some time to get everything into place!

Does the General speak "Chevelle"? We can hold some classes if necessary!

R66SS427 Jul 4th, 09, 10:35 AM Thanks Duke. It's just about 400 miles for us, but we'll be there mid-morning on friday. Rain or shine.

BLT4FN Jul 9th, 09, 1:03 PM well I was about to leave and found a flat tire. Looked and found nothing stuck in it. Must of been what happen as I just topped the tires up the other day.
Cost nothing....

and then see you guys tomorrow
DUKE 69 Jul 9th, 09, 1:41 PM Frank,
I "think" a group may be leaving from the HI to go to the cruise around 4-4:30. There may be some stragglers that go later. If the weather stays as good as it sounds right now, there will be a huge group of cars at Paddock. If at all possible, try to get to the HI earlier so you can go with the group. Otherwise, you may be on your own. See you tomorrow!!
Duke
onabudget Jul 9th, 09, 1:52 PM Loading the trailer today, but not with a Chevelle. This time its tents, coolers, and lacrosse equipment. This will be the first NG I'll have missed. HOPEFULLY I'll see you all next year. Enjoy the weekend.

ftgallant Jul 10th, 09, 10:24 AM Quick question, i am coming from Erie, Pa. Better to take 90 to 290 then 190, or 90 to 190,?which is the easier route as far as less traffic?
BillsCamino Jul 10th, 09, 1:16 PM I'd go 90 to 190N...it's shorter.
Gonna cost 'ya a $1 to cross the Grand Island bridge. :(

northernforce Jul 12th, 09, 2:50 PM So how was it?Sorry I didn't make it-how was the turnout?Did Steve get his car done?Keep on cruising!Dave.
chevelleray#2 Jul 12th, 09, 3:44 PM I was there. First time at the show. I had a blast, so many good and friendly people they treated me GREAT. Having gone to a few camaro shows with my camaro, where if it was perfect nobody talked to you.
Here it didn't matter what it was everybody talked to you. As for Steve, I met him and his black 70 elcamino, what a great kid. There was lots of other people there as well. don't remember names but I know their cars. The weather was rainy for few hour on Sat then the sun came out. Cars got dried off and the show began. After the show we had a great cruz around the island had about forty cars maybe more don't know didn't count just to busy watching the cars. May have been hard to count with all the tire smoke. Of coarse that was happening when there was no people around to get hurt.

ftgallant Jul 12th, 09, 8:15 PM Not to worry Steve, I will be facilitating repairs post haste starting tomm. nite. I checked out your cardomain site on your elky, VERY COOL!! Again, what a good time at the show. I am sure a lot more people will chime in before the nite is over. I got home awfully quick as I drove my chase truck at 80 MPH following the roll back down I-90. Man he was moving! :p.
R66SS427 Jul 12th, 09, 8:26 PM We just walked in the door. I want to thank all the CAN-AM group for a perfect weekend. We are hooked and will never miss another one. Met so many great people and just had a blast!! The quality of the cars was second to none and so were the people. (The party hats are in the trophy case!)

Dave
BLT4FN Jul 12th, 09, 9:27 PM Well I'm still in Buffalo/Niagara. Thanks to all that offered help.
With the help of Randy Kirker and his wife we're going to the tranny shop in the morning. Hoping this is what the problem is.
Any way nothing else to do so here's some pictures.
BLT4FN Jul 12th, 09, 9:45 PM A few more as I have lots of time right now.
DUKE 69 Jul 12th, 09, 9:49 PM Glad to see that so far, everyone has arrived home just fine. I got home about 2:00 and jumped right on the lawnmower (oh boy!). If nothing else, all this rain sure is good for the lawns around here.
Again, I would like to thank each and every one of you that came to the show..whether it's your first time or you are a regular. It takes all of you to make it work. Yes, mother nature kinda "wet" on us a little but it turned out just fine. Another fantastic island cruise...does it get any better than that?
Frank...a killer car with a killer owner...so positive no matter what. I know you will have that black beauty running again shortly. Let us know what you find, please.
Shaun...as you know, we are all friends in this deal and we help each other out. I know you would do the same in a heartbeat.
As I said before, we are already "scheming" for '10. As soon as there is some solid info. it will appear here as well as on the CanAm website. Stay tuned and have a great summer!
Duke
BlueSS454 Jul 12th, 09, 10:11 PM Got home around 7:15 tonight without incident. Not a bad ride home except the lane closures in PA on I-81, other than that looking forward to next year  Maybe next year I'll return the 70 to the show field ;).
I'll try and upload some pics tomorrow night. I'm a bit worn out to do it now. THink a shower, then some much needed sleep is in order.
Well done all. Ron, thanks for the heads up on the pics. Shaun, great photo/computer/tech work. Nice seeing you Steve and Duke and all the others mentioned above or accidently overlooked. See you guys soon. Cheers, R.B.

tanner Jul 13th, 09, 2:43 PM Ed,
Better tell the cheater that I'm on the bike as we speak. :D
But if she can't do any better than this I don't think I have anything to worry about :p
tanner Jul 13th, 09, 2:54 PM Anyone out there want to teach this bunch how to dance ? :D
BlueSS454 Jul 13th, 09, 6:33 PM Just be glad none of that is on video  :D
ed1969 Jul 13th, 09, 7:29 PM Tom,(Peeping Tom) forgot to ask, when are you going to paint the General
RED? :D
BLT4FN Jul 13th, 09, 8:10 PM Well I'm home finally......
Possible twisted crank. Not the converter as we first thought.
A big thank you to Randy and Candy Kirker for all their help with everything to do with my self impossed mishap:thumbsup:
ftgallant Jul 13th, 09, 8:44 PM Glad to see you made it home Shaun! I too know first hand about self-imposed mishaps. :D
BLT4FN Jul 13th, 09, 8:49 PM The price we pay ;).
Did you figure out what happened with your's??????
DUKE 69 Jul 13th, 09, 9:04 PM Shaun: glad you made it home "relatively" unscathed. I know you'll get right on that problem and figure it out. Let us know what you finally have to do.
Tanner (Sam): Can't those folks remember how to do the "Hokey, Pokey"? Perhaps a new game is in line for next year! Looks like you may have to give the dancing lessons.
Duke
tanner Jul 13th, 09, 10:16 PM Duke: My wife always said that my hips are welded to my legs and they don't move so I wouldn't be good at dance lessons. Maybe we can get Ed's wife to do the teaching. :D Kathy , Andrea an Candy can help out !
Sam
BlueSS454 Jul 13th, 09, 10:39 PM Tom,(Peeping Tom) forgot to ask, when are you going to paint the General
RED? :D
I always thought that red + yellow = orange :D :D :D. Maybe we can do a General Grant and put a 76 on the doors
DUKE 69 Jul 13th, 09, 11:04 PM Sam,
You are right...I forgot we had a real dance instructor in our midst! Might have to work on that one just a bit. Let's see, how's that go...right leg in, right leg out....Yeah, we do need a real teacher!
ftgallant Jul 14th, 09, 8:25 AM The price we pay ;).
Did you figure out what happened with your's??????
Started teardown last nite on cyl. head. Will have off tonite. No. 7 intake valve definately bent. I think a set of aluminum heads are in my future. I already ordered a rev limiter from DUI. :D
steve_sutherland Jul 14th, 09, 5:18 PM I already ordered a rev limiter from DUI. :D
that might be a good idea ;)
BLT4FN Jul 14th, 09, 6:23 PM Well mine turns out to be that the balancer had cut the keyway on the front of the crank allowing it to spin free of the rest.:(
BlueSS454 Jul 14th, 09, 6:57 PM Well mine turns out to be that the balancer had cut the keyway on the front of the crank allowing it to spin free of the rest.:(
Did it just snap the key or did it damage the crank too? If it just snapped the key, pop in a new hammer on it a little more :D.

See picture here Tom.

It will not let me put the same picture in 2 different threads.
It appears it was doing it for awhile as the key slot is wider than normal now and the keyway itself has been flattened.
ftgallant Jul 14th, 09, 8:54 PM First picture is the double tap, but piston OK, 2nd pic, I have decided to make my 66 a mid engine car ala Fiero, parts accumulated in rear half of car. :D Brodix heads coming also.
Switch pics around, i am puter illiterate.
DUKE 69 Jul 14th, 09, 10:01 PM Frank,
I know it sounds cliched but it COULD have been worse and I'm sure you might agree. sounds like your upgrades are headed in the right direction. Next year, you can lead the cruise and smoke em all the way down the first straightaway because you will be able too!!! Glad it is already on the mend. Let's see....mid-engine '66...hmmm...has some potential for something.....have to think on that one. Perhaps a new category for awards...best "engine" eered! Yeah, I know, always a smarta**.
Duke
BLT4FN Jul 14th, 09, 11:27 PM I think you win Frank:D:sad: on the damage end. As Duke said could of been a whole lot worse.
I now need a crank and balancer.:(.

Frank, Glad to see thats all the damage. You could have easily added alot more carnage to the repair list. Which Brodix are you going with? I'm looking at the RR ovals. Nice stuff.
ftgallant Jul 15th, 09, 8:27 AM Shaun, if I lived closer, I would be over in a Grand Island second to help you. Are you going to try to get it fixed before end of season?
Larry, yes the Brodix race rite ovals. Thats what I was going to go with on this build last summer. Instead I went with the iron heads which I had laying around. All the pushrods were rubbing on the guideplates also, pushrod geometry was perfect, but my machinist says these 781 heads physically dont have the valves in the right location, and if I were to reuse them ,then i would need adjustable guideplates. Anybody need some boat anchors? :D
Duke, I will be back next year! And I will make sure that my buddy Ron with his yellow 66 and another friend tag along.
BLT4FN Jul 15th, 09, 11:38 AM Yup going to try and fix it just trying to get things lined up and worked out.
And like wise if I were closer to you, I'd be there turning wrenches with you.
Frank also going to PM you..
chevelleray#2 Jul 15th, 09, 6:32 PM Shaun
Not sure if you need a crank or not but I have a spare stock 454 which is standard. It will need a polish or turned down 10. I don't have a good balancer, If you are interested let me. I am not that far from you.
Ray Vogel
BLT4FN Jul 15th, 09, 8:52 PM Pm sent Ray:thumbsup:
BLT4FN Aug 8th, 09, 12:55 AM well mine's fixed and running again as of 9:35pm. :thumbsup::D:hurray::yes:
Built engine Wednesday night installed tonight.:D
steve_sutherland Aug 8th, 09, 7:58 AM right on! thats awesome! didnt waste any time:beers:
DUKE 69 Aug 8th, 09, 8:12 AM Better than ever, I assume. Let us know when you have a chance to "lean" on it it a little. Now, if we could get a report from Frank on just ow bad his was. I think he is in Ohio this wkend so it must not have been too bad.
